"Agricultural intensification, in particular pesticides and fertiliser use, is the main pressure causing #bird population declines. This not only impacts #farmland species but also many other common species, especially those whose diet relies on #insects and other invertebrates." #BiodiversityLoss

"Healthy #soils are strategic assets that underpin food security, water security, climate change mitigation & adaptation, biodiversity conservation and resilient livelihoods. Investing in soil health yields substantial socioeconomic and environmental returns, far outweighing the costs of inaction."

Integrating agri-environment schemes such as organic #farming and wildflower strips enhanced #biodiversity by 20%–30%, while maintaining economic viability and similar profits/ha through premium pricing and subsidies. They could be key to achieving multifunctional agricultural #landscapes.

“A conscious approach to production would care for both the #land and the #farmer. It would regenerate #soils, not deplete them. It would [...] recognise the dignity and #wellbeing of the people who produce the food that sustain us.” #FoodSystems #CoFSA www.theguardian.com/environment/...

"The complex system we call society has two equilibrium states: impossible and inevitable. The change we want always looks impossible. [...] But with sustained pressure, a bit of luck, a change in circumstance, the impossible happens." #SystemChange #AgriFood www.theguardian.com/environment/...

"[...]Simple interventions, such as planting wildflowers, providing bee nesting sites and reducing pesticides, could help raise farmer income by up to 30%, and diets would improve enough to raise 9% of the population out of a nutrient deficiency." #pollinators www.theguardian.com/environment/...

"Early action is more effective and less costly than responding after a crisis has escalated. We have the data, the tools and the evidence to identify risks before they become emergencies. [...] We cannot afford the fallout of another food crisis." #EarlyWarning #ElNiño www.fao.org/newsroom/det...

"Under croplands, AM fungal network densities are on average 47% lower than in non-cropland soils. [...] While more work is needed to link specific farming practices to mycorrhizal health, [...] less dense networks [could] diminish a soil’s ability to store carbon, cycle nutrients, & resist stress."
