@a-cute-nausea.bsky.social Hi Erin! How can I contact you for a question? Looks like messages are turned off.

Shelf Stable Podcast 🔜 Spiel Essen, PaxU @shelfstablecast.bsky.social · 19h

Yes, it looks like Everdell. The top two rows of squares are the worker spots with fish replacing berries but everything else being one for one. The cards are mostly identical except for some costs as far as I can tell.

It seems that publishers can ask for their game to rightfully be taken down. “Aviary” / Wingspan has already been taken down. Please contact the proper publishers to request their games to be taken down. We’ll also need help identifying all of the games so the correct people can be informed.

100% our group is very transparent about expected behavior at game nights

Does end up doing something problematic after they've already been invited.

On the one hand, I want to create an inclusive game night and not draw unfair assumptions when an individual has done nothing problematic with me or publicly/on social media. On the other hand, I don't want to be complicit in the Nazi bar parable, nor do I want to deal if said individual

@ava.foxfort.net @ecfriedman.com excellent episode of But Why Vikings. Especially the part about the sorority student and letting people surprise you. As someone who also lives in a red state I struggle with this one repeatedly.

Another pretty popular side rule was "hole" or "well". The scissors and rock fall in the hole but the paper covers.

Lol maybe? It's an "I don't want to lose so I just added a rule" thing from the playground. I never partook, felt like unnecessary power creep.

I'm continuously impressed with your graphic design. It's distinctly cool and clearly your own, but not at the expense of readability

That Clickolding game looks cool. Someone should make a video essay about it.

Any game where you are physically present next to each other engaging w the game. Engaging not limited to play in the traditional sense as many couch coops in my mind are single player with second player watching/commenting or players taking turns.

It's a shame I won't be attending SaltCon next year unless they have a sudden (and unlikely) reversal on their us of AI in their promo material and - ideally - outright banning it from vendor halls as well. Cons, schools, and other community builders need to adopt a strict policy on this stuff soon

Also, games where the goal is fundamentally driven by other players but you get there through good tactical play. For both of these, Sidereal Confluence comes to mind.

Shelf Stable Podcast 🔜 Spiel Essen, PaxU @shelfstablecast.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

That's a toughie. There are forms of tactical gameplay that don't circumvent politics. For example: tactics that emphasize efficiency don't remove politics but just provide more leverage. It's the tactics that come with a sandbox of options that usually get in the way of negotiation/politics.

Great thread on the impact of new features on YouTube and how they undermine creativity. Some of my favorite board games media is on YouTube but I do not envy the creators that have to navigate the continuous mess that is Youtube's TOS and platform changes.

New comic! There’s a fine line between a memorable game title and something completely impossible to Google. 😅 ➡️ What’s your favorite short-titled game? 📜 You can read this week's blog post at: semicoop.com/comic/brief-search/ #boardgames

A two-panel comic about the advantages and disadvantages of short board game titles. In the first panel, Rachel holds the board game "Lairs" and says, “I just love games with short and punchy titles!” Heinze stands beside her. The panel is labeled “Board Game Yay.” In the second panel, Rachel and Heinze are looking at their phones while Starbuck the grey cat sits between them. Rachel says, “Oh man, it’s impossible to find rule clarifications for games with short titles...” On the table are two games, "Gaudi" and "Bus". The panel is labeled “Board Game Nay.”

In conclusion, everybody say hello to the Ever Board. The most "you could have bought a Switch" device to ever be proposed, topping our previous champions, every other $500 board game tablet ever floated.
