Lovely to chat to @john-self.bsky.social about bogs, dogs, Nazis and AI, coincidentally the same four things I talk to strangers in the pub about. www.irishtimes.com/culture/book...

Looking for a sign to start reading again? Reading has been shown to have a positive impact on health and wellbeing. It also improves academic performance, creativity, employability, and democratic participation. Happy World Book and Copyright Day!
A poster with a light textured background and blue graphic elements shows a person sitting on a swing suspended by ropes. Large text at the top reads, “Want to get back into reading?” followed by “Here are 7 books by European authors we’d recommend*.” Below is a list of book titles and authors with their countries: “Falling Animals” by Sheila Armstrong (Ireland); “Quand Cécile” by Philippe Marczewski (Belgium); “Deepfake” by Makis Malafekas (Greece); “Papir tvoje kože” by Lora Tomaš (Croatia); “La península de las casas vacías” by David Uclés (Spain); “Margaret, er du i sorg” by Maria Kjos Fonn (Norway); and “I Giorni di Vetro” by Nicoletta Verna (Italy). A small European Union flag icon appears in the bottom corner, along with a note indicating the selection is from the 2025 European Union Prize for Literature laureates.

“I think writers should be dissuaded from writing. There are too many novelists by a mile and too many that are not interesting. So my advice: if you want to start writing, don’t fucking do it. You have no hope. And the best scenario is you will lose your fucking mind." 👀 - an interview I just did

This show has now moved to Vicar Street due to ticket demand. Proceeds go to Medical Aid for Palestine. Tickets have just gone on sale and we’d love to sell it out and make as much money for humanitarian aid. Tickets for The Complex are still valid. Please share: www.ticketmaster.ie/irish-writer...

This is bloody good. I'm already worried about how I'm going to feel when it's finished. Beautifully written melancholy prose interspersed with regular slaps of imagery of shocking violence, although they rarely actually describe violence. The rhythm is exquisite.Thank you @sheelanogig.bsky.social !

These are always worth a good look. Especially liking the mention of 'Towards an inclusive Creative Writing', by Janelle Adsit.

Ireland's President Michael D Higgins denounces as 'reprehensible' the attacks by Hamas and the deaths of civilians in Israeli strikes. ▶️ "Diplomatic failure" every year at the UN is "bearing a terrible fruit for all". ▶️ Condolences to all families - and thoughts with family of Kim Damti.

First post over here and its a good'un. Hopefully safer to talk about how excruciating filming a five-minute segment is. Realising you have arms for the first time and have no idea what they are or where they're supposed to go. www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/...
