My skepticism over #ai is firmly rooted in my skepticism of internet utopianism (if you haven't, read @evgenymorozov.bsky.social -- he and I were of a small number of naysayers, then). We were right about the net being a tool of suppression and grief weilded by ordinary folks and especially govts.

I agree, it's interesting. But I've worked in cleanroom environments where techs knew a violation of protocol could mean a loss of $10k/hr, and they didn't report and prayed. ;) I worked at MIT where every year students learned these lessons in less costly circumstances. STEM staff are human.
