Britain’s big four banks are on track for a record-breaking year, buoyed by high interest rates. Now their lobbyists are out in force, warning the government not to tax them more, so they can continue to give huge bonus packages and payouts to shareholders.

The median FTSE 100 CEO earns over £5 million a year. That’s 130 times more than the average UK worker, and a £1 million pay rise in the last 3 years alone. When so many people are struggling to pay the bills, is it right that fat cat CEOs are cashing in?

A 2% wealth tax on just the richest 15 families in the UK could raise over £5 billion a year. That could cut household energy bills by an average of £150 a year using @jrf-uk.bsky.social’s Rising Block Tariff proposal. Check our our full Sunday Times Rich List analysis at sharethewealth.org.uk

The 350 richest families in the UK now hold £784Bn. That's more than the UK spends annually on healthcare, education, housing, defence & policing COMBINED. While millions struggle, extreme wealth keeps piling up. Britain has enough wealth for everyone to thrive, we just need the courage to tax it.

BP’s profits have surged to $3.2bn (£2.4bn) in the first 3 months of this year because of the war in Iran. Meanwhile your energy bills are set to rise by £332 a year in July. Is it time to tax these excess profits, and use the money to cut bills and support our public services?

Why didn't Rachel Reeves raise wealth taxes in #Budget2025? Taxing extreme wealth, like a 2% annual tax on assets over £10 million, could have raised £24 billion a year. Taxing capital gains at the same rate as income from work could have raised £11.5 billion a year.
