did a wild soda firing last night and here are some results! the pyrometer was only reading 2,120f but my witness cone 6 was already melted! i had to rush to spray the soda before things got too hot. i think i did a pretty good save 😅

the first layer of the soda kiln revealed, numerous highly colorful tumblers and a delicately carved bowl are distributed across two shelves in the upcycled oval kiln

the blushing on this blue porcelain cup is absolutely wild--like a sky blue and cherry red orange peel! the reduction red glaze is also bright and lovely

phi is holding up the witness cones in front of the table of pots from the firing--the cones are draping across one another like soft waves in the ocean

just another day in this terrible timeline--hoping that people will continue to sign up for pottery classes at my lil gay clay studio in tacoma and spread the word about how making stuff with yr own hands is a powerful way to change things around you 💖 please support local artists if you can!!

i came up with a method to fit an irregularly shaped, domed lid on to an existing gallery and this is my first attempt! i've done oval and squared jars before but this was a whole different beast. thinking of making a video to share my process 💖 #wheelthrown #slab #handbuilt #ceramics

finished a set of four ramen bowls for a customer and they sent me this pic! i loooove how the glaze frames the food so galactically ✨💫

the reason why i have never even considered buying a tesla is the sheer fact that as an artist, i find their look and design to be atrocious. they ugly af, people. the newer it is, the uglier it gets. all other cars have traditionally been sculpted in clay by artists, and it shows

phi @shapemagic.bsky.social · 01/04/2025

wow, it's like people are protesting tesla because of exactly this energy

an environmental disaster and human crisis. starting the cleanup and stopping halfway through is worse than never starting at all--hundreds of thousands of vietnamese people may be poisoned by agent orange aftermath (dioxin) that was brought to vietnam by america during the war. this is terrifying.

making sure all the tech works before eight week classes begin tomorrow night! especially since covid, i've had a hard time getting folks to step in closer to look inside the pot as i give a wheel demo--so my solution is to blow up the view with a camera and let people look inside from a distance 💖

phi's wheel setup includes a boom stand with a webcamera situated to show a top down view of the working wheel area. the screen behind the wheel shows what the camera sees. this way, while masking and giving each other space, phi's wheel students can better look inside the piece during the lesson

so stoked that this silicone mold worked for my sculpture! AND i was able to save the sculpture too--it'll be neat to have both a ceramic one and possibly a glass or resin one 😍

this stage of the sculpting is hilarious🐟🐟🐟 started a new one today, while i wait for the silicone to set up on my last piece! i finally get to make the mother-mold for the silicone this weekend and i'm trying a new-to-me material, plasti-paste. wish me luck!
