Harley the neighborhood cuddle #cat used to ignore the husband when he went on walks without me. Now Harley comes out to get pets from him. Today, on our walk, Harley ran past me and went straight to the husband for scritches. THE BETRAYAL.

It's cold enough in #Denver today to finally convince me that the fiery summer will eventually have an end. Even though it is supposed to get back up to 88F/31C next week, I see that it *can* be cold. It was starting to feel like weather finally broke for good and seasons weren't a thing anymore.

After oral surgery, consuming food can't really be called "eating." It's more like pushing mush around on one side of my mouth and then swallowing it. My savior? A two-pack of quiches from Costco. A delicious actual food item that's soft enough for my traumatized mouth to handle.

Sweet autumn. Cold nights and mornings, mild days. I hope we get a lot more of this before the #Colorado winter hits. I met a woman who'd just moved here from NYC and was scared she couldn't handle our winters. I laughed, told her she'd be fine. I'll take a #Denver winter over an NYC one any day.

The #Japan trip was physically so hard BUT my #MS symptoms improved and my #Garmin body battery was charging. I woke up one day with it at 100. At home it's usually around 30. Maybe sea level? I'll have to take the Garmin to sea level to try to replicate results. #multiplesclerosis #chronicillness

Teenager safely deposited in #Japan. That was a HARD trip. Physically, emotionally, logistically. Came home with a bunch of bug bites. Almost got bit by a giant orange hornet. But this giant moth landed on the teenager. It was gorgeous.

I have lived in the western US most of my life. I have been spoiled by the dry climate. (So has my hair.) Tsukuba, Japan is hotter and more humid right now than Florida. I had to return to the hotel room and its AC. I can't function like this. #ms #multiplesclerosis #chronicillness #autoimmune

Japanese hotels come with pajamas to wear while you stay there. I looked at the giant, striped nightshirt and said, "No way am I wearing that." Now I put it on every time I get to the hotel room and change back into outside clothes when I leave. I love this thing. #Japan

The teenager is blowing me away. She is adulting so hard. She's adulting in another country in another language. Just yesterday, she got her student ID, she registered her dorm address at city hall, she signed up for Japanese national health insurance, and she signed up for a phone number and plan.

Other than the food, I don't love #Japan as much as I thought I would so far. It's probably because it's stealing the teenager from me, my favorite person in the entire world. Settling in here as a college/uni student is very difficult. If she can figure this out, she can do anything.

I've boarded our direct flight from #Denver to #Tokyo and the interactive flight map is seriously next level. I can see outlines of all the planes moving around the gates and runways. This thing is riveting and we're not even in the air yet. Had to delete the pic to get it to load.

Even cuddle #cats like to go on power trips. Every day, Harley runs out to me for snuggles, lets me get comfortable, and then slowly walks away, making me awkwardly follow him on the concrete. He knows I will. #cat

My cousin, a cat lover, is staying with us. She was blown away by how Harley the neighborhood cuddle #cat runs out to us for snuggles when he sees us. Then we saw a dog we haven't seen in months, who saw us and dragged his owner halfway down the block to see us. I love my neighborhood.

Turns out you can proofread your own writing! Even though I have a background in journalism and editing, I believed you can never proofread your own work. I'm catching stuff other people missed. The trick is to print it out in a weird typeface and use a ruler. #writingcommunity #writing #writesky

Next door neighbor has been working on her yard. Right now there's loud, incessant pounding. I think she's putting up a fence? AT 9PM. This is the first time I've ever wished I were in an HOA so I had someone to call and complain to. Some caricature of an HOA president who rules with an iron fist.

Every time I think the heat is finally subsiding, it comes back. I'm starting to think fall is a myth. When I moved to #Denver 20 years ago from LA, September was so cold I regretted wearing flats with no stockings. The house needed to be heated. This September we'll still need AC.

When we were kids we got chicken pox. Once. Now we get shingles from the same virus. But shingles you can keep getting. I don't get it. I've had shingles. But I still had to get the vaccine. (I'm not yet 50, but I got it early because of my meds.) The shingles vaccine SUCKS. Shingles sucked more.
