Thinking about the two hours I spent earlier this week putting together an entire presentation on the impact of this pub: using @altmetric.com : "Amphibian fungal panzootic causes catastrophic and ongoing loss of biodiversity." 🐸 www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Starting in 2025 we will be processing positive or negative sentiment for posts on X (formerly Twitter) and Bluesky (also formerly Twitter). Are those 629,000 mentions you woke up to positive? Or is everyone currently posting your home address to Reddit? 18/20

NEW Altmetric will soon look in your Alt Text field in your images for links to research. Source: This shiny new interview with @miguelgarcia.bsky.social on the addition of @bsky.app to the Altmetric service. www.altmetric.com/blog/tapping...
One thing that we saw now as an opportunity while ingesting BlueSky was alternative text (alt text). So when you post a picture in Bluesky you can add alt text to be displayed on that picture and this is mainly for accessibility. And what we’ve realized is that some users of Bluesky added the URL of the publication as alt text of a picture. That’s something we were not doing before and we thought ‘here’s a good idea: let’s track mentions from alt text as well’. So as we are indexing more data sources, we also see new ways that people are engaging with social media.

You should use the available space in these Alt text fields to clarify, describe and enrich your visual content.

Every now and again you should use it to remind someone random person that they are valuable, unique and important. Altmetric logo with a Bluesky Butterly next to it

THREAD: Research we should be thankful for. The chances that we and everyone we know and love would be here today, alive, healthy and thriving without the advances of science and technology are basically zero. Today we look through the research and scientists to whom we owe everything. 1/19

As part of my December quest to eat as many carbs as possible, I’m pretty proud of yesterday’s first go at popovers. They’re big, they’re cheesy, they’re popping over.

Excited to be here and fashionably late. Prepare yourselves for posts on scholarly research, cats, books, recipe testing, and whatever my brain comes up with. Promise it will only be slightly unhinged.
