She reported rape. That should have brought questions, follow-up and a serious investigation. If the Cornell DA thought the statement didn’t add up, his job was to find out why. She had already spoken up. The burden of investigating belonged to him. #Cornell #SurvivorsDeserveJustice

A Cornell student reported rape. The DA says the statement he reviewed didn’t establish probable cause. Then explain the gap. What did she tell police? What reached the DA? Who followed up? She reported a sexual assault. She deserved an investigation. #Cornell #SurvivorsDeserveJustice

A student reports rape. The DA says there isn’t enough evidence. Who was supposed to look for it? You can’t find evidence you don’t look for. The Cornell case demands answers. Read the full piece: shanlonwu.substack.com/p/the-cornel… #Cornell #Accountability

Named to the 2027 edition of The Best Lawyers in America® for Qui Tam Law. Proud to make the list. Prouder to do the work. Whistleblowers expose the fraud powerful institutions want buried. Making sure they are heard, protected, and ready to fight is the job.

Trump tried to choose which reporters could cover him. Fox declined to take CNN’s seat, and a judge restored the banned outlets’ access. The First Amendment remains stubbornly uninterested in whether the President enjoyed this morning’s headlines.

Trump believes in a free press. The press is free to praise him. CNN, MS NOW, and Politico were banned for criticism. That is viewpoint discrimination, not media policy. If Trump wants applause instead of questions, he should book another rally. youtu.be/pCcBHLkEkII

Good news, America. The Supreme Court has decided that voters may continue using the mail. For now. Please hold the applause. The Court got the right result, but still grabbed the microphone while Alito found eight pages to explain whose “irreparable harm” matters.

Whistleblowers take enormous risks to expose the truth. Standing beside them means taking on fraud, power, and the institutions that believe they are untouchable. Proud to be recognized in the 2027 edition of The Best Lawyers in America® for my work in Qui Tam Law.

Trump wants a golden arch 250 feet tall in Washington. Congress never authorized it, but his lawyers claim a 1925 bridge law did. Apparently, Congress ordered a bridge and got a golden arch for free. The gold is decorative. The lawlessness is structural.

Fraud thrives when powerful people believe no one will challenge them. Qui tam law proves them wrong. Proud to be recognized in the 2027 edition of The Best Lawyers in America® for my work in Qui Tam Law. Honored by the recognition. Even more committed to the fight.

Trump’s DOJ admitted that nobody vandalized the Reflecting Pool. Yet Jeanine Pirro asked the judge to preserve the power to resurrect these baseless charges later. The evidence is dead. The case should be dead. Keeping it alive is cowardice dressed up as law to keep Trump happy.

Shanlon Wu @shanlonwu.com · 04/09/2026
Trump demanded punishment over the Reflecting Pool, so his DOJ pushed a baseless case through a branch staffed by rookie prosecutors who depend on supervision. Instead of protecting justice from political pressure, Jeanine Pirro’s office delivered what Trump ordered and embarrassed itself in court.

Donald Trump’s ego may be the most heavily protected institution in Washington. The pool failed. Blame a criminal. The ballroom faced legal trouble. Call it national security. Government by tantrum. #DonaldTrump #TrumpAdministration #SupremeCourt #WhiteHouse #LegalNews #PoliticalAnalysis

Trump built 65% of a $400 million White House ballroom without congressional approval. Roberts let him continue. Apparently, the Constitution is now first-come, first-served. Move fast. Create irreversible facts. Tell the courts it is too late.

Trump demolished the White House East Wing and built 65% of a $400 million ballroom without congressional approval. Then he told SCOTUS that stopping it would be dangerous. Roberts let him keep building. Create the crisis. Demand the reward. Call it presidential power.

Trump’s reflecting pool prosecution collapsed, but DOJ embarrassed itself on the way down. Prosecutors gave the defense grand jury material, then accused THEM of violating secrecy rules by using it. The rule doesn’t apply to the defense. www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KwxieOMqdg

Trump’s DOJ charged people over alleged vandalism at the D.C. reflecting pool. Then its own evidence undermined the case. Now DOJ wants to leave the door open to bring it back. Based on what? www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KwxieOMqdg #DOJ #Trump #ReflectingPool #LegalAF

Trump’s Reflecting Pool started falling apart. DOJ blamed an Olympic canoeist. Then the evidence killed the case. Trump’s response? Find another way to prosecute him. That’s persecution, not prosecution.

Bill Cassidy says confirming Todd Blanche was about what was best for DOJ. Nonsense. The problem isn’t “acting” versus “confirmed.” It’s whether Trump’s former lawyer is there to serve justice or Donald Trump. That’s the real Republican problem. youtu.be/RpR9baP4J-g

Trump raced ahead until his $400M White House ballroom was 65% built. Now he says it’s too late to stop AND suddenly it’s a national security issue. Build first. Ask permission later. Then call it presidential safety. How convenient. #Trump #SCOTUS #TrumpBallroom

Trump wants SCOTUS to rescue his $400M White House ballroom. And with a conservative supermajority that bends heavily toward executive authority, there’s a real chance he gets exactly what he wants. Another emergency appeal. Another test of presidential power. #SCOTUS #Trump

Bill Cassidy voted to put Trump’s former personal lawyer in charge of the Justice Department, then claimed an acting AG might not run DOJ effectively. That’s not a serious explanation. It’s an excuse. Cassidy came through for Trump. Now spare us the story about doing it for the good of DOJ.

The DOJ Has a New Boss. Trump Has an Old Ally. Trump’s former criminal defense lawyer now runs the Justice Department. Bill Cassidy can spin his vote however he wants. The history doesn’t back the excuse. Trump wanted his guy running the DOJ. Republicans delivered.

All that breathless coverage about whether Republicans would block Todd Blanche, demand answers on Epstein, or finally push back on Trump. Then Bill Cassidy came through for Trump anyway. The surprise isn’t that Cassidy folded. It’s that anyone is still surprised when this happens.

Trump’s former personal lawyer is now Attorney General. After days of breathless speculation that Republicans might finally stand up to Trump, they did exactly what anyone paying attention should have expected. They folded when it mattered. Spare us the Republican resistance narrative.

President Trump is trying again to limit birthright citizenship, but reviving a flawed constitutional argument doesn't make it any stronger. The 14th Amendment can't be interpreted one way when it's convenient and another way when it's not. That's not constitutional consistency.

Shanlon Wu @shanlonwu.com · 11/08/2026
President Trump is trying again to limit birthright citizenship. The problem hasn't changed. Executive orders don't rewrite the 14th Amendment. They never have, and they never will. Politics can change overnight. The Constitution doesn't.

Shanlon Wu @shanlonwu.com · 10/08/2026
President Trump's latest push on birthright citizenship runs into the same obstacle every time: the Constitution. Executive orders don't override the 14th Amendment. If birthright citizenship is going to change, the Constitution has to change first. That's how the rule of law works.

The biggest mistake in the mail-in voting debate? Thinking it's about mail-in voting. The real fight is over executive power, judicial review, and who gets to decide how Americans vote. That fight didn't start with the last election. It started during the Civil War. History changes everything.

Shanlon Wu @shanlonwu.com · 04/08/2026
Changing election rules isn't simple. States administer elections. That's why attempts to reshape mail in voting through federal agencies raise serious constitutional questions and major logistical challenges, especially this close to Election Day. www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGxYYs5FGxo

Everyone is arguing about mail-in voting. Almost no one is talking about the constitutional question now before the Supreme Court. The politics are loud. The legal implications are much bigger.

Trump wants to change how mail-in voting works before the midterms. There's just one problem. States run elections, not the federal government. And trying to rebuild the system in less than 100 days isn't reform. It's a recipe for chaos. Watch the full breakdown: youtu.be/vGxYYs5FGxo

Birthright citizenship survived. The Supreme Court's credibility took another hit. Forget the 6-to-3 vote. The separate opinions reveal a Court increasingly divided over constitutional interpretation, precedent, and its own role in American democracy. The headlines missed the real story.

Justice Gorsuch joined Justice Thomas's dissent. Then he wrote another opinion anyway. Not because the constitutional question changed, but because apparently there was an even more sophisticated way to make the same argument. www.youtube.com/watch?v=tt2G8-cSBho

Justice Alito doesn't like the consequences of birthright citizenship. That's not the same thing as saying it's unconstitutional. His dissent spends more time arguing policy than explaining why 125 years of constitutional law should suddenly change. www.youtube.com/watch?v=tt2G8-cSBho

Justice Jackson found the pressure point in Justice Thomas's birthright citizenship dissent. If the Constitution is supposed to be colorblind, why argue that the 14th Amendment should be interpreted through a race conscious lens?

The moment a federal judge stops taking the DOJ at its word, the damage goes far beyond one lawsuit. The rule of law depends on credibility. If the courts no longer trust the Department of Justice, every future case becomes harder to litigate and harder for the public to trust.
29224
Shanlon Wu @shanlonwu.com · 10/07/2026
Trust is the foundation of every constitutional democracy. Not politics. Not power. Trust. Once that foundation begins to crack, the consequences reach far beyond any single case. The Constitution only works when the institutions entrusted to uphold it continue to earn the public's trust.
1299
Shanlon Wu @shanlonwu.com · 09/07/2026
The Department of Justice cannot function without credibility. When federal judges stop taking DOJ lawyers at their word and start demanding sworn proof, the problem is no longer one lawsuit. It's institutional. The rule of law depends on trust. Once that's gone, every future case becomes harder.

The strength of a democracy isn't measured by how often people agree. It's measured by whether people are still free to disagree. Debate is not a flaw in the American experiment. It is one of its defining features.

America is one of the only nations founded on an idea rather than an identity. That is why questions of equality, liberty, and justice have been debated since the founding. Every generation has been called to wrestle with them. That debate is not a weakness. It is part of what makes America unique.

A Court that keeps reaching for bigger cases and greater influence risks becoming part of the political story instead of simply deciding it. That's why judicial restraint matters.

James Comey and Gavin Newsom have very little in common, except that both have become targets of a Department of Justice that increasingly appears willing to focus on Trump's critics and political opponents. At what point do isolated cases become a pattern worth questioning?
