I will soon have several Pis running on several RF channels through the house. For now, cvbs is a placeholder until I get that finished

I'm using a pi zero running omxplayer on Debian buster, with a cheap i2s dac for audio. Obsolete and a pain of work with, but I struggled to find a modern solution that was lightweight enough to run on the zero and supports composite video output

More pics. It's on a swivel mount, and can easily be removed. I plan to run a number of playlists on various analog tv channels via closed circuit RF through the coax in my house; until I finish getting that set up, I'm running the Nickelodeon playlist via composite

Repaired and installed a necessary kitchen appliance today. (Full tube swap) Have a pi hooked up that shuffles a playlist of curated cartoon shows.

Alright y'all, I'm gonna try it. Ubuntu Linux on a Thinkpad T480s as my primary laptop. Never really used Linux before. Time to find out if this is the year of the Linux laptop.

Found these adorable little bootlegos at Walmart for $8 each. A few cursed building techniques, but overall not bad for the price. They are called "Zuru MAX Retro Collection". They are in these orb things that look like gachas, but which one you get is clearly labeled on it.

The backpack holds 500. You can get offbrand darts from Amazon, and many perform better than official ones. I purchased 600 darts for like $30 total iirc.

His kickstarter page has more info. I have wanted an m134 dtyle5 blaster like this to exist since I was a teenager, so I'm absolutely thrilled it's finally a thing. I can vouch this thing is seriously the real deal. Highly recommend checking it out. www.kickstarter.com/projects/gat...

MOAB KIT - The Ultimate 3D Printable Dart Blaster Project
STL Files & Hardware Kit for your ingenious 3D-printing project: a fully functional Foam Dart Blaster that fires 50 darts per second!

The whole kit is extremely well thought out. The build process takes a number of hours, but it was genuinely fun and well explained. The build was surprisingly easier and more straightforward than I expected. The 3 milestones helped chop it up into 3 evenings of assembly.

The mechanics inside operate like a real m134 minigun, complete with a shell delinking and ejection system. It has 6 rotating independent firing mechanisms on a rotating cam, just like the real deal. The engineering on this thing is absolutely insane.

I had the privilege of beta testing Gatling Tommy's "Mother of All Blasters" kit. The MOAB fires 50 nerf darts per second (yes, 3000rpm) using its 6 rotating barrels, from a 500 round backpack. More info 🧵

Fun first day at VCF in Dallas. Lots of people showed up and stopped by. Looking forward to seeing more faces this weekend. I'll be there all day tomorrow (Saturday), as well as Sunday afternoon. Hope to have someone to keep the TV running while I'm absent Sunday morning!

Still a bit off. Gonna wait to really dial it in until I move it out of the parents garage into where I live next

Thanks to the efforts of the DFW retro computing community, I will be showcasing the mythical KX-45ED1 at Vintage Computer SouthWest in Dallas this weekend. Hope to see you there!

It's still crazy to me that nobody has developed a GBA e-reader "flash cart" style ROM hack of the e-reader ROM where you can pop up a menu to select from a list of "cards" on your SD card to have the e-reader "scan". Would make lots of obscure content way more accessible.

Tonight I attempted a method to add fake scanlines to lumadoub using only i2c commands to try to turn the DACs on and off every line. Nope, not gonna happen. It's just not fast enough. Guess I'll have to explore other methods that involve additional components.

These 2 chips together will likely cost a comparable amount to the 1981

What's the issue with the 1981? I've never used one, but it seems like a great chip on paper.

It can only accept YPbPr, Svideo, and Composite. It grabs the sync on composite/Luma, and has h and v internally that can be buffered for output. So like, you could, but there are better ways to do so if that's all you want to do.

The dev board i designed has a lot going on for me to really test out as much as I can out of these chips. But the core of the circuit is these 2 chips in this rectangle: The ADV7280A and the ADV7391. Doesn't need much else than an MCU, voltage regs, and video input/output

Been working on and off on this project for a few months with my GF, who is a software dev. Once we are done, our plan is to open source it to give the many scenes (that utilize analog video) a circuit and software toolkit to make some some really cool stuff.

Current challenges: ❓480p line doubled output works but currently looks like butt and thinks 240p is 480i ❓Need to implement detection for 240p cause some stuff like N64 makes it big angry without manually toggles ❓Gotta figure out how the line doubled smoothing filters work.

Aside from the 3d printed cap that threads on over the top, it's almost entirely made of metal, so I'd be pretty impressed if someone snapped it. It looks like plastic, but it's black powder coated metal. They are quite a bit heavier and tougher than they look

Hmmm... Not sure how I would do that. Would need a completely different design to accomplish that.
