Most vision scientists would bet that single-cone receptive fields exist in primate fovea, but it was not proven until now. It took years of sweat and $ to combine #AOSLO and electrophysiology. Congrats to PhD student Keaton Ramsey and his mentor Lawrence Sincich. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Physiological basis of resolution acuity in vision - Nature Communications
Neural mechanisms underlying high visual acuity are not fully understood. Here the authors show that high resolution visual information is transmitted from the retina to the brain by neurons in t...

We can image single ganglion cells in the human eye with 3D OCT. But what happens if we focus the full 100 kHz scanning beam on a single cell—cone or ganglion?

Congratulations @leahgjohnston.bsky.social for winning the @optica-fvm.bsky.social YIA! Most #visionscience folks know that stabilized retinal images fade. Fewer know that stabilized, but flickering, images also fade. Even fewer know that the flicker-fading doesn't take place in the retina.

This paper is the result of >20 yrs of hard work by talented students, postdocs and collaborators, but none more than my co-author Ren Ng and his team in EECS. 1/n Novel color via stimulation of individual photoreceptors at population scale | Science Advances www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Such an honor for me to receive this award named after Bob Boynton, who I never knew, but whose approach to science was an inspiration for me. His son just happened to attending #VSS2025 when the award was announced. The apple does not fall far from the tree.
