@Shamlet @shamlet.bsky.social · 09/10/2026Teaching is a challenging beast. If you're even just a bit off physically, mentally, emotionally, for whatever reason, it can come at you hard and fast. We must always be mindful of this so we can look out for our colleagues and take care of each other. 0130

@Shamlet @shamlet.bsky.social · 06/10/2026This is quite a fragile result, which it was always going to be with so many parties, and the most profound divide in North American politics -- urban vs rural -- is starkly evident Predictions in Quebec politics are always dicey, but another election sooner rather than later feels like a safe bet 010

@Shamlet @shamlet.bsky.social · 04/10/2026The degree to which the core professional development demand is "give me stuff I can use in class on Monday" reflects how chronically stressed the system is -- reflection, philosophy, the big picture are luxury items when time and resources are at a premium 0216
@Shamlet @shamlet.bsky.social · 04/10/2026To set a record surpassing Flutie's favourite target from the high-scoring 90s would be something for any receiver, but for a Canadian receiver? Awesome 😎🏈🍁 010
@Shamlet @shamlet.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Microsoft Publisher was slated to "retire" on October 1, but it is still opening and functioning, a spectral presence on my computer that is thus a keen representation of this final phase of my teaching career 🤣 060

@Shamlet @shamlet.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Thanks for doing this! The article has proven to be a great thought piece to start the school year, and the meeting was valuable even though my participation was tech-interrupted. Definitely sharing with colleagues! 110
@Shamlet @shamlet.bsky.social · 27/09/2026It's in the same family as "mistakes were made" -- it detaches those who created the systems from responsibility, as if they are somehow rebellious children 110
@Shamlet @shamlet.bsky.social · 27/09/2026To speak of an AI system "going rogue" is even more misguided that saying that one "wrote" something, because it implies not just consciousness but some kind of moral compass when neither of those things exist We need to combat overt illusions, but also those that are embedded in the language 271

@Shamlet @shamlet.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Which of these is a clearer indicator of a strange world: the fact that Canada has drawn up scenarios for an American military invasion, or that when I'm teaching kids how to use an em-dash I might actually be making trouble for them lest they run up against the "AI wrote this" police 070

@Shamlet @shamlet.bsky.social · 26/09/2026The only one I watched in any appreciable quantity was Schitt's Creek, because it's Canadian and was widely available. The others were just a small handful of episodes. Following a TV series has always been a rare thing for me, and I'm a big CBC guy so if I do it tends to be a Canadian show -- 010
