Earlier in May, Shake Up The Establishment’s submitted feedback on the 2026-2029 Federal Sustainable Development Strategy 📝 Read our full policy brief at ShakeUpTheEstab.org/2026-2029-FSDS-feedback
Slide #1: Title text reads: “What is the Federal Sustainable Development Strategy?”. A line below this is a paragraph of text that reads: “As mandated in the Federal Sustainable Development Act, Environment and Climate Change Canada, with support from other federal departments, must establish Federal Sustainable Development Strategies to advance three dimensions of sustainable development (environmental, social, and economic) on three year intervals.”. A line below this reads “On January 12, 2026, the government opened a 4-month-long public consultation seeking feedback on the Draft Federal Sustainable Development Strategy. The final Strategy is expected to be published in the House of Commons in November 2026.” A line below this, in smaller text reads: “Source: Environment and Climate Change Canada. Strengthening transparency and accountability. Government of Canada. Updated July 21 2024. Accessed April 20 2026. https://www.canada.ca/en/environment-climate-change/services/climate-change/federal-sustainable-development-strategy/strengthening-transparency-accountability.html”. At the bottom of the image, there is a curved text bubble which reads: “Read Shake Up The Establishment’s Submission at ShakeUpTheEstab.org/2026-2029-FSDS-feedback”

Slide #2: Title text reads: “We submitted feedback advocating for”. A line below this is a bullet-point list that reads:
“a visible commitment to creating prosperous, fulfilling and holistically healthy lives for all people living in Canada, over narrowly prioritizing economic prosperity agendas
stronger upstream, preventative environmental policies and climate-related regulations over performative resiliency-building commitments; to help ensure upstream climate related-impacts are minimized as much as possible before communities are forced to adapt to them
co-developing concrete actions across the Strategy in consultation with structurally vulnerable and marginalized groups who are disproportionately impacted by environmental pollution and climate-related impacts, including investing in trust-building with communities impacted by racism, colonialism, and discrimination who face increased barriers towards participating in such processes
increased transparency about enforceability and accountability mechanisms for the implementation of the Strategy, including by ensuring that all strategies mentioned are legally enforceable; If the government truly cares about reaching climate adaptation objectives “in a fair, inclusive, and equitable way, while respecting jurisdictions and upholding Indigenous Peoples’ rights,” then legally-binding immediate climate action needs to occur”
At the bottom of the image, there is a curved text bubble which reads: “Read Shake Up The Establishment’s Submission at ShakeUpTheEstab.org/2026-2029-FSDS-feedback”

🫂 Introducing, Infiltrate the System Network’s Intergenerational Advisors! Canada's first youth climate policy network aims to create in-person and online spaces for youth-led climate justice activists to strategize & collaborate on actions to increase public participation in policy action.
This is a multi-slide post. Slide #1: We asked our Intergenerational Advisors for the Infiltrate the System Network to ‘Share a memorable moment in your climate justice work’Slide #2: 'A racialized colleague and I were invited to deliver a Zoom session about environmental racism to a non-profit organization. Unfortunately, the session was Zoom-bombed with graphic, racist images and video. The organization quickly shut the meeting down. But the damage had been done; attendees were traumatized and shocked. This incident was such a powerful demonstration of racism that we shelved our planned slides and opened up the discussion to see how people were feeling. It just goes to show: we can’t talk about environmental or climate racism without acknowledging the larger issues of structural and systemic racism in which they are situated. - Anna-Liza Badaloo (she/her)' On the left side is a black and white photo of Anna-LizaSlide #3: 'One memorable moment in my climate justice work was the electrifying march through the streets of Paris after the conclusion of COP21 and finalization of the Paris Agreement. Like so much of climate progress, it was an imperfect success. But that moment in the streets felt big enough to hold it all – the joy of winning a global consensus on 1.5 degrees, and disappointment of so many other losses. It was a beautiful thing to see people dedicated to climate action from all different countries, and scales, and using different strategies, recognizing that we can and must celebrate the momentum of our work while always demanding more. - Emilia Beliveau (she/her)' On the right side is black and white photo of Emilia.Slide #4: 'In response to a youth-led initiative that I was privileged to support, on July 23, the world's highest court issued an historic ruling on climate justice. The International Court of Justice concluded that climate change is an existential threat to humanity and that governments are legally obligated to implement urgent, ambitious and equitable climate actions. The Court also confirmed that the right to a healthy environment is a prerequisite to the enjoyment of all human rights. - David Boyd (he/him)' on the top right corner is a black and white photo of David.
