It's absolutely impressive you spent the extra time connecting every single vertex here, whereas I was looking to save time and used custom normals to hide it. However the trade off is the lighting making it look more spherical. Yours is proof that it's worth the extra time.

I've used that addon for years, never been an issue. What is an issue is Blender's latest update 4.2.3 which does crash a lot. So go back to 4.2.2 (or 3.6 LTS) and try it.
