I coached softball from 85-06. Once in a while a kid would be picked on for wearing glasses. Or they would be nervous about playing while wearing glasses. I'd show them Rance.

Then Liberal MP Leona Alleslev crosses the floor to the Conservatives. Then CPC Leader Andrew Sheer seemed to be ok with it. Weird.

Jays fan here. If Toronto sports fans rioted every time they have been disappointed, downtown would look like Berlin 1945. I get Mariners fans are disappointed, but at the start of the year if you were told your team would be in Game 7 of the ALCS, you would have thought that was great.

On this day in 1812 Major General Sir Isaac Brock fell in battle at Queenston Heights on the Niagara River, repelling an American invasion/invitation to become the 19th state. In death, Brock became "The Hero of Upper Canada". Several escalating battles led to the burning of Washington DC in 1814

Isaac Brock dying on the battlefield exhorting his troops to "Push on!". In reality having been shot point blank his last words were more likely "indistinct gurgle".

#DXing #SWL #Shortwave When I heard Radio Baghdad International in the early 1980s, Iraq was not top of mind in North America. If anyone had heard of it they were probably a stamp collector, a shortwave listener or a viewer of I Dream of Jeannie. Jeannie had family in Baghdad.

In 1990 in the first Women's World Hockey Championship, Hockey Canada put the women's team in pink jerseys. The players unanimously told them in no uncertain terms they would never play again if they did it again. Ever since they wear identical jerseys to the men.

That time I (inadvertently)joined a death cult. Aum Shinrikyo was a cult in Japan. In 1993 they rented time from unused Radio Moscow transmitters. I wrote to them, asking for information. As I read their brochure I realized that these delusional folks counted everyone who wrote them as members.

#DXing #SWL #Shortwave If you listened to shortwave in the 1960s, 70s, 80s and/or 90s you will remember Joe Adamov's take on things. Longtime host of Moscow Mailbag on Radio Moscow. He answered my letter once or twice. He was quite a character.
