I wouldn't say hag. Any good ruler must be good at PR. Especially if they're trying to consolidate power, such as with the Grand Companies. I also wouldn't call it attractive per se, which is why I was confused about Solus having modern admirerers.

Social engineering here refers to the actions related to curating propaganda and causing the public to act a certain way. PR, of a sort. Solus was gifted with an understanding of how to make himself well liked as a leader and feared as a military adversary.

Most people find having their life on the line scary and unpleasant, I regret to inform you. I as a parent also quite dislike my child being in danger. When we travel we go somewhere like Radz-at-Han or Sharlayan, where threats upon Allie's life are rare.

i know its probably not how its supposed to be interpreted, but i always thought zenos greeting gaius sort of casually when he walks in to him stabbing his father was SO funny because he's just like "gaius what's UP my MAN guess what i'm here killing my DAD"
