The album consists of some of the most popular singles and songs released by the Kinks since 1964. The tracks on the stereo pressing are electronically processed "stereo" with added reverb.

The first Yes album, released on this day in 1969. This one always gets knocked for its production values--or lack thereof--but that only adds to its charm. I always admired the rawness of it, myself. They could only get better from here....and they did.

I remember the precursor to it on Nickelodeon, which was called "PopClips" in 1980 (I was 4 years old, but my Dad would let me stay up and watch it with him).

On this date in 1957, Geoff Rhind uses his Kodak Cresta and snaps a picture of local band the Quarrymen at the Woolton village fete. The picture is crowded, but there’s only one person that we, and the watching Paul McCartney, take notice of.

April 21, 1986: 40 years ago, Geraldo Rivera opened Al Capone's vault on live TV. It would be an understatement to say "The Mystery of Al Capone's Vault" was a huge disappointment. Somewhere in Hell, Al Capone probably had a good laugh.

"Some Other Guys: The Story Of The Big Three" The story of the greatest band that came out of Liverpool that you've never heard (of). Rock's first power-trio, and a band that should have been huge, but this tells why it all went pear-shaped, even with the "breaks" they'd got. vimeo.com/256544364

Cinemax (who really seemed to love Stanley Kubrick's movies) even ran a shortened rendition of Vivian's "making of" documentary, which ran about 7 minutes, which was fascinating to see, as I had no idea that such a thing existed. They were almost making seem and sound like it was a brand-new movie!

Believe me, we always looked for it, and it just never turned up anywhere until the opening weeks of 1986. It was great to see the uncut version, after making do with the taping of the edited-for-TV version from ABC in May of 1985, the way it was meant to be seen.

It was in January of 1986 that The Shining began making the rounds on cable TV after a long absence. We had both of these channels, along with HBO, and we hadn't seen it on cable since it made its debut on there in the fall of 1981.
