Hope no one on the UK has any hidden/secret phones - the UK government just pushed out an unannounced mobile wildfire risk alert. Somewhat questionable use imho, and def. not suddenly urgent enough to warrant no warning of the push alert.
UK severe wildfire risk alert message: There is a very high risk of wildfires nationally. Residents, landowners and visitors should not undertake any activity that could start a fire, including disposable barbecues, firepits, garden incinerators or fireworks. Even a small flame can rapidly develop into a major wildfire placing lives, homes, businesses and emergency responders at risk.
Follow official updates and report signs of fire immediately by calling 999. Search gov.uk/alerts for more information.

Sky was looking quite dramatic on my walk this morning. Almost apocalyptic.

Apple does already have on device nudity detection, it’s just opt-in at the moment. They’ve also already rolled out mandatory age verification in several regions, including the UK. Seems like they just need to link them together. Under Privacy & Security:

Spotted a Tawny Owl chick on my regular walk this week. Slightly concerned that they’re only 6-7ft off the ground in a quiet but semi-visited area, though apparently it’s not uncommon and it looks like it’s being fed.

For reference, this is the Age Verification screen you see in the UK after installing iOS update 26.4:

The recent Anthropic study, which most non-technical commentators misread, shows the coming impact & jobs affected in this single diagram. Blue shaded shows AI job task capability today. Red shows observed application today. Note the large gap - the real impact is still to come.
Diagram from an Anthropic study showing current AI theoretical capability to undertake a percentage of tasks required by an occupation vs observed usage. The white collar capability is broadly high today, but observed usage is still fairly low. Suggesting AI impacts are a long way from being felt in practice so far.

if you see this, quote with a robot that isn't from "Star Wars", "Star Trek", "Dr. Who", or "Transformers.” (Is this cheating? It’s not from Star Trek but did directly inspire one Trek Series!)

This is how we’re supposed to use Bluesky, right?

Who doesn’t need a job? Pensioners! (For now!) That’s a sizeable number of voters who’re now less likely to oppose it. Working age? Here’s a handy guide to who doesn’t need to bother getting a digital ID card:
