I finished the first book from my Christmas box this morning and opened the second. It is a signed first printing of Wright Thompson’s The Barn, about the murder of Emmett Till. Looking forward to reading it. Also expecting to be emotionally wrung out by it.

I have a whole gang of grown nieces. They went together and gave me a box of books for Christmas. I’m supposed to wait until I have finished one to open the next. This is pretty amazing. I’ve been a grinch about Xmas. Then this happened.

Fourteen individually wrapped books in a box that is also wrapped. All of the books are wrapped in different patterns of Christmas paper.

If you live in Central Mississippi, I hope you will get out and vote for Justice Kitchens in tomorrow’s run off. Supreme Court Justices are supposed to be non-partisan, and Justice Kitchens is respected across party lines. His challenger has been running as a far right candidate.

One of the funniest things about small town MS is that a local bbq restaurant is the easiest place to get a vegetarian plate. I doubt there is anywhere that serves vegan, though.

Last summer 3 people close to me died w/in a few weeks. I struggled w/ RA flares, living on heating pads & ice packs believing it was all anxiety since. Recently noticed that I have not taken my DMARD, one of my main meds, for months. Looking forward to telling dr this. Do I blame it on brain fog? 🤦🏻‍♀️

I read the first few chapters last night and definitely recommend. Well written, intriguing characters. It reads like Native American lore woven into a fantasy world. It won a Nebula for YA fiction. Good stuff.

A number of women told me that they voted for T in 16 & 20 but couldn’t do it again. Yet % of white women who voted for T in 16 did not budge in 24. Statically, the ones I talked to must have caved. I’ve been grappling w/ the amount of peer pressure from church and community WW face.

I was diagnosed with RA in the mid-90s when I was mid-20s. Male rheumatologist told me not to have children. The meds I take now did not exist then. Young women have more options now. But yes, I am unapologetically a childless cat lady, and I enjoy life & nieces/nephews.

My new interest in cross stitch, embroidery, etc, has led to the discovery that Etsy is flooded with AI generated products to the point that it is hard to tell when a pattern is artisan created and when it is AI generated…at least when looking at the online ad for it.

I recommend both of these books. The Walter Isaacson biography of Franklin offers such a good overview of his character that I’m convinced he’d see politicians of today as insufferable pricks. Jill Lepore focuses on what like was like for women in Franklin’s day, especially for his sister Jane.

My personal fear is that Vance will have his way and insurance will become prohibitively expensive for the chronically ill. I’m on BCBS through retirement system. My Simpani Aria infusions for RA are very $$$$. What happens if insurance drops coverage or dramatically increases premiums?

I’m learning counted cross stitch as a retirement hobby. I’m making mistakes, but it helps to calm my anxiety. That at least reduces the degree to which my anxiety drives up chronic pain levels. It’s a therapy win. I needed that today.
