Plus I think it'd be neat to top off YIIK's story with Alex genuinely helping someone. Thooouuugh throwing him into an arguably in-fiction fictitious location might not be the best for him. At the same time, his lesson isn't necessarily to stop leaning on fantasy. That's a symptom, not his disease.

YIIK 2 was Alex's story covered in safety layers of abstraction, just so he wouldn't reflexively deny it. Deltarune could offer another kind of abstraction, where he must now assist people in very similar, yet at the same time, quite different positions as he was in.

...And most gamers fell for his deception hook, line, and sinker. Compared to that, earlier in the Pax East demo, Wilfrid kidnaps a baby saying "yeah, I'm just looking for a new ending", and of course I.V afterwards being as it is, both are more obvious about more going on that the original release.

Also, my personal headcanon(?) (it's more like how I look at the game) is that every public version is a different "cycle" as I mentioned. It's actually really funny, because the first YIIK the public ever got to see is probably the strongest final push Alex's psyche does at blocking stuff out...

On a similar note, my read of I.V has always been that we're seeing like, the last few cycles of Alex going through his life's biggest moments in his mind before he makes a massive realisation, so I was also surprised to see people thinking Alex's stuck in the DSV and will never get better.

To be honest, I pity Alex quite a lot. I get the vibe form him that he doesn't feel like he deserves to complain about his actual problems because he was born into a rich family with a loving* mother. * Avril makes me genuinely uncomfortable, but that's a different topic...

On the first level, you see through Alex's grandstanding and see him for the faulty person he is (I.V made this easier admittedly. On the second level, you see through Alex's self-hate and realise that didn't just like, spawn into reality being evil. His circumstances made him into what he is.

I *was* quite surprised when I first joined the YIIKCord and it turns out, some people thought the game was about showing off how bad a person Alex truly is. It's not necessarily a wrong read, but I always felt that YIIK has two "levels" of interpretation.

Determining what should be the thumbnail for a YIIK video based on familiarity with the game and its story:

An IQ bell curve meme, but modified to instead show "YIIK familiarity".
On the lower end of the curve, the text "I'll put Alex Yiiking out as a thumbnail because it'll be funny" can be seen.
In the middle, the text is instead "I'll put Michael in the thumbnail since he's the focus of I.V".
The higher end of the curve repeats the text seen at the lower end.

I've been doing some tinkering on some units for a PAYDAY 2 mod. I do my code changes, go into the game, spawn in the unit, as normal. It appears in an A-pose, announces "they won't know what hit 'em", and then my game crashes. I... I guess I truly did not know what hit me.

Getting into PAYDAY 2 modding has resulted in some of the most accidentally funniest bug reports I've gotten so far. "My friend who doesn't have your mod installed is crashing when joining me / doesn't get the team benefits." Well. Have them install it.

I genuinely just love Cyrille as a character, her interactions with Krow, the worldbuilding is just peak both in the sense of themes and storyline AND literally, with this seemingly post-post-apocalyptic vibe to the entire land, the OST all through it... The NG Blackened Pond theme is mesmerising.

On the other hand, if Cyrille's sections were expanded into a whole game, and YIIK and this theoretical game were sister-games using the same mechanics but telling a different story (or approaching the same themes differently), I'd probably have two games fighting for my GOTY spot right now.

Finished YIIK. I don't always pick a GOTY for each year, but this game might just be it for me for 2025. Holy shit, I'm absolutely floored. This game is genuinely art. Had me sitting in my chair, leaning back and looking up at the ceiling, going "...wow" when I finished it.

Coerce is an exploration-only activity, and it requires spending *at least* 1 minute in conversation with the target. As written, the Holo-Roger's Coerce part quite literally does not work.

And the worst thing, come Remaster, Paizo forgot they didn't use that, and added it back in to Player Core, and had to scramble to errata it back out. So if you ever see "as usual" / "as normal" in rules text, you should immediately be calling bullshit and double checking, just to be sure.

Notably, for about four years of the game, there were actually two Dying rules, one more deadly than the other. Most people ignored the more deadly variant, but if I recall Beginner's Box and the GM Screen both referred to that.

There is actually somewhat of a meme in some Pathfinder circles about the "as normal" / "as usual" text, because Paizo often either forgets to print the rule that's being referred to, or has changed their minds about said rule between writing the "as usual" text and release.
