While at it, Thatcher also attacked FDR. "What many people are talking about is: ‘I have a right to a social security payment.’ You have not as such, it is not a human right, you have a right because someone else has fulfilled an obligation, that is not a human right."

One staunch supporter of Rhodesia was Senator Jesse Helms. In 1979, Helms sent his aide, John Carbaugh, to London to assist Ian Smith.
British officials charged that John E. Carbaugh Jr., a legislative assistant to Senator Jesse Helms, the conservative Republican from North Carolina, had advised Mr. Smith to “hang on” and refuse to yield to British demands for the elimination of certain safeguards for white Rhodesians. Mr. Carbaugh told Mr. Smith, according to the British, that the United States would probably lift sanctions against Zimbabwe Rhodesia by Oct. 1.

In Washington, Senator Helms, who has been a leader in the effort to lift the sanctions, denied any impropriety.

After Mr. Reagan's election, Mr. Carbaugh served on the State Department transition team. Mr. Carbaugh was known to have sought a high-ranking job in the Administration and was said to be disappointed when the position he was offered was Ambassador to Paraguay.

After rejecting the job Mr. Carbaugh told friends, ''I have more power where I am now.'' As an aide to Senator Helms, Mr. Carbaugh has the confidence of his boss.

Importantly, Eisenhower’s landslide election made revisionism about World War II impossible. With Taft and McCarthyism, more Republicans might have been tempted to wonder whether America fought on the right side in the war, as Tucker Carlson does today.

The "Zionism is racism" shtick was invented in the 1970s by the KGB, in part, to suppress Soviet Jews and deny them the right to emigrate. 2021-2025.state.gov/more-than-a-... 1975, the year of the UN resolution, was also the year Putin joined the KGB.
At the same time as domestic antisemitic media coverage surged in the USSR to criticize the emigration of Jews from the country to Israel, a controversial draft resolution emerged in the Third Committee of the UN's General Assembly In 1975, resolution 3379 on the “Elimination of all forms of racial discrimination” appeared aimed at determining “that Zionism is a form of racism and racial discrimination.”The Kremlin and Andropov's KGB were eager to throw the Soviet Union's weight behind the resolution, first and foremost because the KGB was the ghost writer and secret patron of its creation.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1970s_Soviet_Union_aliyah
