Whoa what are those things? They look real life 'save' emojis!

Andy Parry @sfatw.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

Oh and @margaretatwood.bsky.social is Canadian so this will be added to Canadian library along side books Captain Hadfield and James DeMille

Finally listening to The Haidmaids Tale. Saw the first series when it came out but never continued it past that. So it's good to going back to the book (audio). May change my Name to Of-Ness as she in charge of me

Doodle is definitely the wrong word to use too... But I was running out of characters. So it is a signed alongside a surreal, original, hand drawn piece of weird xenobiotic artwork. Yup that feels better. Oh and this has been placed on top of the to read pile!

There are signed hardback first editions and there there is The Final Inoculation signed and doodled by @cmkosemen.bsky.social . After a quick flick through. This is a stunning vibrant gorgeous book. Although 'book' doesn't give this piece of art justice!

My pleasure, it's always fun to write a quiz :)

020

Andy Parry @sfatw.bsky.social · 13/09/2026

Do you have any Vietnamese science fiction?

Andy Parry @sfatw.bsky.social · 12/09/2026

Weekend away to the coast with the family. Popped into a random steampunk event and met W.E.B Fox and bought copies of his science fiction trilogy. Nothing for my around the world project, but you gotta support the indie authors!

010

Andy Parry @sfatw.bsky.social · 08/09/2026

Red Sword is the most beautiful physical book I own. Cool story too. I also love the art deco style of The proposal (and the other 2 books by the same author)

010

Andy Parry @sfatw.bsky.social · 08/09/2026

BULGARIAN science fiction... Sounds weird... And a bit dark, and possibly dystopian. Bulgarian dystopia... Sounds like a radio 6 band

010

Andy Parry @sfatw.bsky.social · 08/09/2026

Hmmm... I think it's just on the outskirts of Haversage. My wife has just started Special delivery. She had to elbow me in the ribs to ask about the naming of planet Kalax. She didn't believe me, until she read the author's notes!

110

Andy Parry @sfatw.bsky.social · 07/09/2026

Done... Is the 3rd book set in Derbyshire? That edge looks mighty familiar!

101

Andy Parry @sfatw.bsky.social · 07/09/2026

Looks awesome. is it science fiction?

100

Andy Parry @sfatw.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

This arrived today. Margret Helgadottir, born in Ethiopia, to an Icelandic father and Norwegian mother. Luckily writes in English! This will be my Ethiopian book for my project.

Bad idea to use lazy metaphors with a professional author! I love your books, I love that I learn snippets about a culture, foreign to me, through great fiction.

020

Andy Parry @sfatw.bsky.social · 01/09/2026

I was, and still am drawn to your work because of the way you have woven parts of African culture into your books. I do appreciate the works as a whole too.

Spot the ONE difference. Thanks to @rexburke.bsky.social now I have a copy that fits into the trilogy.

120

Andy Parry @sfatw.bsky.social · 21/08/2026

Ive only read the 1st, but have the 2nd also. Maybe one day I'll get all 10 and read them.. but I need to finish the 'before the coffee gets cold' series before I attempt to complete any other Japanese series

110

Andy Parry @sfatw.bsky.social · 21/08/2026

Legend of the galactic heroes was my first intentional non USA/UK science fiction purchase (as it was quoted in The Dark Forest!)

130

Andy Parry @sfatw.bsky.social · 21/08/2026

Added a tag for the authors bluesky too @namwalien.bsky.social missed it on the original post

Straight back to work after the holidays, but it does mean I can get back to audio books and return to The Old Drift by Namwali Serpell. This will tick off Zambia from my world science fiction list. No science fiction so far, but I think that comes later in the book...

110

Andy Parry @sfatw.bsky.social · 20/08/2026

It's up there. Like I can't compare it to anything else. And I hate reviews that use comparisons to other books/authors. It's a great discovery and I've really enjoyed ot because of it's unique approach

020

Andy Parry @sfatw.bsky.social · 20/08/2026

Feels appropriate to be reading the final few chapters on the ferry. Although it's the English channel and not the North sea, as per the book. Tagging @northodoxpress.bsky.social as I can't find the author on bluesky

162

Andy Parry @sfatw.bsky.social · 19/08/2026

Wait... mine are by authors' country or origin

000

Andy Parry @sfatw.bsky.social · 19/08/2026

Oooo love a prize draw... I wonder if anyone has done a prize draw drawer, or should that be prize drawer draw?

I buy them. I'm building quite a physical collection of sci fi book from around the world. But not all translated Valeriya, was polite enough to move to England and write her book in English

120

Andy Parry @sfatw.bsky.social · 16/08/2026

12 chapters in so far, and it's weird, and intriguing, and definitely loving it

My favourite quote was "He smelt of aftershave, but not because he drank it"

020

Andy Parry @sfatw.bsky.social · 16/08/2026

Also love that they used 'rifles' not 'lightweight semi automatic carbine, GX486 rifles with a 243 modified carbon fibre stock, with protius resin 48x night vision laser scope'. As that really does my nut it, in some other military sci books

110

Andy Parry @sfatw.bsky.social · 16/08/2026

Well that was a blast! Just finished Special Delivery by @rexburke.bsky.social. Really good fun, fast paced and some beautiful heartwarming moments too.

Nope, now they have guns again...

120

Andy Parry @sfatw.bsky.social · 15/08/2026

No rifles, just 2 massive hunting knives at the moment

010

Andy Parry @sfatw.bsky.social · 15/08/2026

Loving Special Delivery by @rexburke.bsky.social , does help when you're sat on a French beach, reading chapters between dips in the Atlantic

Is it just me or does any one else think, "this isnt a lunar eclipse, but Fred Hoyles, Black Cloud is coming true"

010

Andy Parry @sfatw.bsky.social · 12/08/2026

Any more books set in this future India?

The laburnum's great pub too! I'm back in Belper in a couple of weeks after our holiday, so I'll be in touch about a copy. Gutted to have missed the weekend at cromford too!

110

Andy Parry @sfatw.bsky.social · 12/08/2026

I think I know that view! Malt Shovel by any chance? Also would that mean there are signed copies available in Scarthin Books? I'm back in Derbyshire in a couple of weeks i would love to get a copy of Mercy's Gate

110

Andy Parry @sfatw.bsky.social · 12/08/2026

I look forward to it, no swearing so far... But I'm only 1 chapter in!

010

Andy Parry @sfatw.bsky.social · 12/08/2026

Next up on my holiday reading pile. Massive fan of @rexburke.bsky.social so know this is going to be a fun read.

131

Andy Parry @sfatw.bsky.social · 12/08/2026

Finished! Great read...now not sure if the book is foreshadowing the world of influencers and YouTubers, or my wife's rise to power, as she is my 'reality creator', picks my clothes, makes me edit my social media post... Hmmm.

110

Andy Parry @sfatw.bsky.social · 11/08/2026

Wine consumption, has over taken page reading. This will have to wait until tomorrow

000

Andy Parry @sfatw.bsky.social · 11/08/2026

Maybe not dystopian, just realism! Wait! I haven't finished yet .. only 40 pages to go. Shhhh need to finish
