Or don't. In anything but knockout races this only affects your credits which as far as I can tell are only used to buy stuff you're going to lose at the end of the run anyway. You can still grind up your base stats this way if you're willing to put in that time.

I have discovered one easy strategy. Run around at about half throttle for the bulk of the race. You'll still be fighting for top 10 this way but won't usually crash into anything. When the music starts, if you actually start to race, you have a good chance of winning with one good lap.

Yeah if you mean the red lights they’re not super helpful when you’re just kind of facing a horizon full of them. If they’re pointing in a particular direction I can’t see it.

Yep. Metroid and Castlevania have leaned hard into becoming modern copies of the indie games they originally inspired. Honestly that's probably the best way to appeal to modern audiences, but not me.
