Found out about this tenant union organizing manual for San Franciscans today from an eviction defense attorney at the meeting I went to. This is tailored to the new rights to bargain collectively with our landlords that tenants won in 2022. sfadc.org/organize/

Enabling conditions
Political support: Strong backing from the elected official of water management, as well as from the president of the metropole, facilitated the adoption and the implementation of the strategy.
Citizen participation: Civil society representatives were appointed to the Board of Directors of the public water utility (Régie), including user representatives. This helped ensure that user preferences were taken into account in decision-making.

Figure out how you're going to organize with your fellow workers
According to Nina DiSalvo, policy director at labor advocacy group Towards Justice, some systems use signals associated with financial vulnerability - including data on whether a prospective employee has taken out a payday loan or has a high credit-card balance - to infer the lowest pay a candidate might accept. Companies can also scrape candidates' public personal social-media pages, she said, to determine if they are more likely to join a union or could become pregnant. The data can be used to determine wage increases after an employee is hired, and the practice can veer into discrimination, experts say.

This is what people power looks like and with it we can change everything about how we live, play, breathe, and work.
This impressive sweep of council races is a testament to the vitality of the organizing infrastructure that has emerged in the city over the past six years. Under Isaac Slevin and Callie MacDonald, who directed Reclaim's canvassing and political operations, more than 200 volunteers knocked over 25,000 doors across fifteen races, defending incumbent councilors targeted by the landlord and charter school lobbies, preserving and expanding the progressive council majority, and retaining Morales's state representative seat for his endorsed successor, Amy Santiago.

Solidarity with this icon in these troubling times
Willie Wiredhand is a anthropomorphic electrical cord with a male and female end - male for their legs and female for their head. Their head, hands, and "legs" which are the metal prongs of a plug are painted yellow in this drawing, and their body -- the cord -- is black. At the waist the cord changes into the plastic part of the plug and resembles hips and is striped black and white. Really giving gender if you ask me.

Social movements have real power in shaping the future of mining, and these organized efforts matter enormously for the future of global politics, how corporations and governments respond, and - we could imagine too - how communities and even families look in the green future.

I checked the logs (photo albums from 2008) and sure enough, my summer ended with a Pirates game and a Brad Paisley concert if you can believe it. Not quite sure the route we took, but that's because the drive was a straight shot, no stops, and i napped when i wasn't behind the wheel. Still counts?
Adding on to the same map above, now with a route that runs along I-59, 20, 65, 71, and 70.

Writing this out unlocked a forgotten childhood road trip from Nebraska over to Pike's Peak! I know this is the route we would have taken because both of my parents hated driving in any city containing more than 200,000 people and thought every driver in a city that size and above was a lunatic.
The same map as higher in the thread but with some more counties across NE, KS, and CO filled in.

This was a lot of fun and way more time than i want to admit. Have i road tripped from New Orleans to Houston and from New Orleans to Pittsburgh? My memory thinks so, but my brain says both wouldn't have happened, it would be one or the other.

Yall the gasp that went up when we showed this snipped in a room full of people already mad about their utility corporation. We talked about how there is an entire belief system that makes this type of policy and speech socially acceptable and how our task is to drive this out root and branch.
"People think much better in the dark," said a speaker who identified himself as a collections supervisor from PSEG Long Island, a utility that serves more than 1 million customers on Long Island and in parts of Queens. The statement was met with laughter.

Extreme heat kills and our right wing media will turn it into a narrative that abandons people. Here's an example: note that 700 people died in 2 years and the outlet solely stated drug use is the leading cause -- not the heat itself!! (An organizer here said many of these folks were homeless.)
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) - The Clark County Coroner's office reported Monday that there were 191 heat-related deaths in 2025.
The report is not final as 90% of cases take up to 90 days to investigate the cause and manner of death, the county said.
The county also added that certain drug classifications make people more susceptible to succumbing to the heat, including the use of certain drugs, including fentanyl.
In addition to the use of drugs, other contributing factors in heat deaths can include illnesses and
medical conditions such as cardiovascular disease, as well as behaviors such as physical exertion, inappropriate clothing, lack of acclimatization, and poor fluid intake.
Heat was a factor in the deaths of 527 people in
2024, according to the county.

This is what it's all about. This is a public power champion right here.
No, we want to be here because it feels like a good use of our time, as we see the world burning, we are here building community, meeting like-minded people, talking to our neighbors, getting out of the isolation and doomerism of our phones to practice the kind of society, collaborative, connecting, interested in equity and justice, that we want to build, so I love our campaigns.

This new agreement is an 8x increase on their existing profit sharing agreement.
Samsung Electronics workers have approved a landmark profit-sharing agreement that is expected to award employees in the booming memory chip division an average bonus of nearly $400,000.
The deal passed on Wednesday with 74 per cent of the company's labour union voting in favour and ends months of wrangling over how to share the spoils of an AI-driven bonanza at the world's largest memory-chip maker. The union had threatened to strike if a deal could not be reached.
Under the agreement, 78,000 semiconductor workers will be given 10.5 per cent of the company's operating profit. This would amount to a bonus pool of more than Won34tn ($22.6bn) based on a forecast by brokerage KB Securities of Won327tn operating profit this year. This is on top of 1.5 per cent handed out through existing bonus schemes.

Literally painting the hot map grey and black 💀💀
A map of high temperature centered on France but showing data for a wider view of Western Europe. The scale goes from -40 to +40C and is for Monday 25 May. It shows a range of at least 10C in the French Alps to 40C and above in the entire western part of France from Nantes to Toulouse. The map itself is ominous: the highest temps are painted black and grey, with lower but still high temps in orange and red.
