Do I think that ganguro is intentionally racist? Probably not. But Japan doesn't have the same sensitivities about racism, so they just do racist things unintentionally. And also intentionally a lot of the time, especially if you're the wrong kind of Asian.

I also never bought that being based on ganguro makes Jynx not racist. I think it would make Jynx actually racist if anything. Ganguro is, in part, inspired by black culture. Making your skin dark and lips lighter and all that in an attempt to emulate black culture is a really bad look.

Pokemon started development in 1989 and released in 1996. Ganguro arose out of the gyaru subculture in the mid-late 90s, and didn't get popular until the 2000s. At best, you have someone on the development team on the pulse of niche Japanese sub-subcultures, at worst, you have a time traveler

I never really bought the idea that Jynx from Pokemon was based on ganguro. To me, the timeline doesn't add up, and even if it did, it only seems superficially inspired by it because beyond having dark skin and being blonde, it share no other connection. It seems more like a post-hoc excuse by fans.

Awesome. I guess Ontario just stole these for their school materials.

Since it was produced by a government agency, especially way back when, whoever made the image is probably lost to time, unfortunately. We apparently don't even know a specific date or year it was made.

I was also able to find a link on Alamy stock photos with the same description, but the page was down when I accessed it.

I think I mentioned it before, but if you wanna check out another horror game, try No, I'm Not a Human. It's one of my favorites in recent years. It's not very survival horror, but it's got a very solid atmosphere.

It's sort of an evolution on Twilight Princess in that sense, since Twilight Princess was doing the OoT thing but on GC/Wii. I dunno, I liked the Star Fox remake graphically well enough, but I think the OoT remake misses the mark in a lot of places.

When you consider the context of what OG OoT was, it was realistic-stylized anime characters in a realistic-ish world. I mean, all the textures were basically scaled down photos of real materials or painted to look like that. I think that's sort of what they're going for with the remake

Y'know, I really find the fact that Pocahontas is considered a Disney Princess to be pretty gross given that she was a real-ass person that suffered and was subjugated at the hand of colonizers and the movie is a whitewashed story vaguely based on it

For sure. Digital's def got that convenience. I got a ton of my games digitally, but nothing beats actually being able to hold and admire your collection. I hope to one day own a copy of every single n64 game. At least the ones that don't cost thousands It'd just be super cool to have them all.

I enjoy it even if it's a little inconvenient. There's a magic to the tactile feel of it all that you just don't get with a digital collection
