Funny Ace Attorney tier headline, terrifying reality that a guy accused of murder had his phone broken into so the prosecutions lawyers could scrape it for location data, files, sleep pattern data, a list of deleted apps, and his heart rate, so he could parade them in front of the jury.

It's basically "Leave ads running for some cosmetics". And occasionally they build an "experience" with some adventure game engine that might be vaguely entertaining or distracting.

It *used* to be more accurate. Like really accurate. It helped to set expectations. Now Discord thinks they can get more clicks with the power of Technically Not Lying.

But uh, yeah! A lot of rewiring of my brain (by choice), navigating all this and a new relationship, while simultaneously socializing and finding more gender-affirming ways to act and present myself, while also learning the tools and tricks of the platform in a hurry. It's been a lot! But worth it.

Quick Addendum: I'm still with my long-time partner. I love her and that hasn't changed, she's on-board and I'm fully communicating things to her. This is not some secret shameful thing. Poly only works when you talk.

140

Setsune Wave @setsune.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

There were/are also other complications I won't mention here. But we both figured out Something was there. We had some helpful talks, we felt around a few subjects, she and her then-partner had a talk about things, so did I, and long story short... I was now part of a new poly trio. Oh. *OH.*

Setsune Wave @setsune.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

You may think you know where this is going, but there were a few hiccups. One, I didn't know if I had a death sentence or not. Two, they were in and out of a few relationships; one they even traveled to visit. Three, I'm in a poly "V" relationship, but I've never had a reason to look outside that.

Setsune Wave @setsune.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

The night ended, unfortunately with a bit of mutual sadness. But within a few days we were hanging out more on the regular, and despite the fear of how my surgery was going to turn out, I was making mutual good friends and hanging out with people and it was the most "right" I felt in a long time.

160

Setsune Wave @setsune.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

I need you to understand that at every point of this process my brain was yelling at me to find some excuse to leave, not because I wasn't having a great time but because That's What I Do. This was the longest time I'd spend in a night in VR. But I knew I needed to make myself keep going.

190

Setsune Wave @setsune.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

Eventually I catch the eye of someone whom I joined once for a post-event watch party, and before I know it I'm Extrovert Kidnapped, being invited to meet friends and go to worlds and hang out and even do VR karaoke for the first (terrible) time. And all this time I'm like "what is going on".

Setsune Wave @setsune.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

Weird thing started happening: People actually started greeting me. As a familiar face. This is odd but this group is nice, I can work with that. Go to more meets, talk a little more, actually go with people when they offer for you to go do things. It's not always easy but things are looking up...

Setsune Wave @setsune.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

Hi. So, this is why Setsune has dropped off the face of the Earth: After the cancer diagnosis (don't worry, they got it all) I threw myself into VRChat more. I'd tried to make it work a few times over the years but never really stuck with it. I still mainly did movie/show watch parties.
