15/42 GameCube disks archived. I finally opened my Japanese copy of Pikmin I bought from "Super Potato" a year ago and the disk is so much more visually appealing than the NTSC copy!

NTSC disk is all lime green where the JP disk is yellow and dark green in two halves.

A Reddit thread of people that couldn't believe you could /still send items to other players' towns/ in Animal Crossing GC inspired this entire series. Offline software is durable. sethmlarson.dev/building-software-f…

This Reddit comment thread from the GameCube subreddit was the initial inspiration for this entire series. The post is about someone's niece who just started playing Animal Crossing for the first time. The Redditor asked folks to send items to their nieces' town using the secret code system.

This ended up surprising many folks that this system still worked in a game that was over 23 years old! For reference, Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and Nintendo Network were only available for 8 and 13 years respectively. Below are a handful of the comments from the thread.

But what if users are on the same network? What if the internet isn't available? Or what if the server is taken offline?

In these scenarios users can't connect even if they share the same local network because the software was designed to require an intermediary.

I've started my "tip the tiny web" project: I'm running the instance locally. Will be trying to give on average ~$1/day in tips spread across the hundreds of web creators that I enjoy and don't already pay for without micropayments. Let's see how this goes!

For anyone who was curious about Jimmy Johns' "Picklewich", here's a picture of ratios! 🥒 My wife and I's review: it's not bad at all, if you like pickles you'll probably be happy. Obviously messier and tougher to bite but overall quite good. Would we order again? No: get extra pickles instead.

Jimmy John's pickle-wich which substitutes the bread for a gigantic pickle that's been hollowed out and filled with sandwich fillings. We went with the "Vito" which is an italian sub sandwich configuration.
