Have I somehow missed prior emails about the NSF "Brand" or is this a new thing? I thought this email was spam at first. The 2026 NSF Brand Standards Manual is an 80 page document.. doesn't really seem like the most pressing issue at NSF right now, but what do I know?

As someone who studies gas exchange and has tried to develop new parameterizations of under ice gas exchange, this was incredible to see. I was sad when we were finally over land, which of course was also beautiful. What a marvel. It took a long time before I could see inside the plane again.

Originally there were a few small ice bergs and massive numbers of smaller ice in between, with large gaps of open water. As we moved closer to Northern Canada / Nunavut lands the ice was more solid, with fewer leads and only small gaps between large masses of ice.

Flying from Zürich to LA yesterday we followed a great circle route north over Greenland. I happened to look out the tiny window in the door and saw this awe-inspiring view of Baffin Bay. I've never before gotten to see sea ice during this melt period - leads forming, water exposed.. 🌊

Sorry to everyone whose manuscripts / prospectuses I'm late commenting on, but there was some important float manufacturing to do... 🌊 #argo #oneargo #argofloats

My first PhD student, Shannon McClish, successfully defended last week. She's been at the leading edge of research into the linkages between surface production and biological carbon export. Couldn't be more proud of her and her work. Its nice to have something to celebrate these days.

Well that was fun (and unsurprising):

After settling on a lab group name (HI-Cycles), we're working on logo ideas. Anyone have a suggestion for finding an artist to make our ideas look nice?

Took 2+ years, but look what finally showed up!
Four crates in a lab, with one open showing a yellow profiling float, also called an Argo float.
