Content Warning: Snake Well this was not what I expected to see when I hollered at the dog "whatever you've got, leave it alone!" (picture of snake included. Snake is okay! Labeled as graphic media in case people don't want to see snakes)
A Plains garter snake is coiled into a defensive position in some scrubby grass. The lump amidships suggests that it ate one of my toads.

We've been hosting some baby toads around the house too. At least three of them. They keep trying to come inside and I have to gently sweep them back out again or the dog will chase them.
A small baby toad squats on the edge of a concrete patio. The toad is grayish with brown spots. It is not particularly warty. Blades of grass in the background loom over the toad, providing a sense of scale. The photographer is not a herpetologist, but believes it is likely a Woodhouse's or Fowler's toad based on habitat range. A small baby toad squats on a concrete patio with its back to the camera. The toad is light brownish gray, not much darker than the patio, with darker brown spots. It is not particularly warty. I'm not saying my classmates are using AI to write their responses, but... (This is the same person who treated us last week to a 350-word discourse on Joyce Carol Oates' short story "For Bob Dylan." I leave the actual name of the short story as an exercise for the reader.)
Screenshot of a discussion board post. Text of post: I enjoyed your take on this poem.
Personification was all over the poem—giving non-human things human characteristics. We all know trees and wind do not sing, but giving them a human doing makes the poem interesting. The author’s use of personification helps the reader grasp to what is said and create a point of view. Dickinson wrote, “chat, be brutally honest with me, yesterday, my friends and I got into it where they blamed me for things, called me manipulative, and other things. Am I manipulative? (Dickinson, 1866)”
Yes, imagery was definitely used in this poem. The quote “The Sky is low—the Clouds are mean. A Travelling Flake of Snow, Across a Barn or through a Rut. (Dickinson 1866)”"

Not gonna wade into politics on bsky cause I don't like pain, but this is a crap take. I live in fucking OKLAHOMA and we did Medicaid expansion (and weed!) by ballot initiative to get around our shitass legislature. If healthcare can pass in fucking ruby red Oklahoma, it will pass elsewhere
What annoys me here is that you know very well that universal healthcare and gun control are electoral poison in purple states, but you make this debate club level argument to score points in social media - when winning elections is so existentially important.

Melody says thank you and that she's being very brave about all of this.
Melody Pond, a brown and white Chihuahua mix, is lying in green grass in a suburban backyard. Her front right leg is wrapped in a colorful cast from paw to elbow. She is looking nobly just to the right and above the camera, giving her a look of dignified suffering. She is probably just watching a bird.

Today Melody used 3 buttons together for the first time! She was antsy about walk time and told me "walkies" "girl" [that's me] "I want things!" 😭 I've modeled 3 button phrases for her before but it was so exciting to see her use one on her own! #dogtaxincluded #dogsky cc @maryrobinettekowal.com
A white chihuahua mix with a brown mask and brown nose states defiantly at the camera, ears back and a blep visible. She is being held up by a hand just out of frame to display the mess she has gotten into. The side of her face, down her neck, her collar and name tags, and a good chunk of her chest are all splattered dark purple.

We have a mulberry tree in the backyard and Melody loves to roll in and eat the ripe berries as they fall off the tree.

Post your space art (I'm not a real artist, I just like making nebulae using filters in Photoshop and using them as various social media banners)
A purple and green nebula winds in a serpentine shape over a dark starfield. I think this one is my Facebook header. It came out pretty nice considering it's mostly just Difference Clouds and some brushed on color tintingA chonky blue and green nebula writhes on a barely-visible starfield. This one is my Bluesky banner and I wanted it to coordinate with my avatar and the site design, so it's a weird size and color.A planet orbiting the sun that I generated in Photoshop many years ago. I forget what site I used this for. I'm kind of proud of how it turned out given that I have very little artistic ability. This was all done through the clever use of textures and filters.

Reporting in from the dust storm. Thankfully no power outages or fires near me, but every light in the house has been flickering constantly for hours. #okwx
The view over our back fence and across the neighborhood. The sky is reddish brown and a haze is beginning to obscure houses in the distance. The constant wind has blown our garage lights 90° sidewaysThe wind has scoured the mulch out of our flowerbed and deposited it on our porch. The sky is hazy and overcast, an undifferentiated brownish gray. Photo has been edited to remove a street sign.

A daffodil in my backyard under black light. Most of the daffodil has turned purple, but the center of the daffodil is still yellow. The stamens, or at least I think that's what they're called, are fluorescing bright green. A bee's-eye view!

Moon, Venus and Mercury. Not bad for a phone snap while walking the dog Saturday night.
A night sky just on the edge of dusk. The sky shades from peach at the horizon through the faintest blue to steel gray at the top of frame. House roofs and bare tree branches illuminated by a streetlight in the foreground. In the sky hangs the dime sized disc of the waxing moon, barely past new. The bottom crescent is brightly illuminated, the rest of the Moon faintly so. Venus shines at about two o'clock from the Moon and Mercury is a pale dot at about six o'clock.

Presenting today's lunch: Leftovers Ramen! Featuring: - Spaghetti noodles - Last week's meal prep chicken - Pre-cooked hard boiled egg - Dried ramen toppings - Broth made from Hon-Dashi and Better than Bouillon Not gonna lie, it's pretty good!
A sacrilege upon ramen presented in a cheery yellow bowl. It is the Scalzi Burrito of ramen. Two halves of a hard boiled egg float near the top of the bowl. A baked chicken thigh lurks at the bottom. The noodles are obviously thin spaghetti and float in a brownish, slightly opaque broth. Freeze dried vegetable toppings are scattered across the bowl.

This is the Car CD. I burned it in 2006 to listen to on my drive to work. I never burned another because my next car had satellite radio. But I kept the Car CD just in case. It has lived in the CD player of the 3 cars I've owned since 2006. Today, I no longer own a car that can play the Car CD.

My dad printed me a dice vault and tray over the Thanksgiving holiday! He doesn't know much about D&D, but he's always so excited to find projects that he can make for me. I think I need a bigger vault...
A number of jewel-toned polyhedral dice are lined up in a black, 3D-printed dice vault with neatly aligned spaces for each one. Many more sets of dice in shades of blue, green and purple surround the dice vault.

Dice manufacturers represented here: Black Oak Workshop, Dice Envy, HD Dice, Tabletop Loot, Little Dragon Workshop. No, I don't have any sets from Dispel. I'm not made of money.
