Vibing with @ramiismail.com's latest newsletter. I can think of surprisingly large numbers of games that this feels true of. Also you see a specific take on this with 'Ma' in film-making/storytelling.
Screenshot of part of a newsletter with text:

"It is not worth it to be a perfectionist about
this content - because it barely exists as content - it exists as context. It is the valleys to our peaks, the depths to our lands. If the good-enough was as high in quality as our great, nothing would be great. Nothing would stand out, and nothing would be remarkable. We'd stand in a flat land with no features besides a perfectly straight horizon, as if a game project we haven't started to build yet."

Image of The Netherlands looking very flat. Followed by caption:

"Basically, if you don't somewhat stick to peaks and valleys, your game will look like the Netherlands."

So my only conclusion is that the growth rings are messing with my brain. I replicated the illusion by drawing over it on my phone and it does kinda work! Not as effective but definitely makes the groove feels skewed the other way! I enjoyed this tiny slice of detective work.
The same photo from the first post. The same photo as in the first post but with the end of the board drawn over to invert the rings, which also makes the grooves look slightly skewed the other way.

Ok so it's pretty much parallel to that edge, perhaps it's the board being bowed? Also nope! The edge we measured against is dead flat, surprisingly so actually for this crap pine.
The same board with a set square ruler placed against it, no light shines between the edge of the board and the ruler edge.

It looks like the deepest part of this channel notch thing skews to the left so I measured it. Actually turns out it's skewed somewhat the other direction but well within normal pine-ass tolerance levels to be called perpendicular still.
A caliper measuring the distance at the longest depth of the groove, it reads 10.61mmA caliper measuring the distance at the shallowest part of the the groove, it reads 10.68mm, despite looking like it is closer to this edge than the deeper part does

These two notches look massively bent, crooked as hell, but I cut them on a table saw and they should be perfectly perpendicular to the top surface?? I investigate.

You could also buy a small set of screw extractors. They work by fitting into a small hole in the end of the screw that you'd have to carefully drill and then their backwards thread means they tighten into the screw until it comes back out. They are not very reliable though.

This shouldn't be allowed.
2 pieces of plywood nearly pulled together for gluing end to end. 2 thin wooden slats hold the pieces in line and provide glue surface but basically no structural integrity. I care not.

This sounds cool! Let's read the article for details! "The full integration of AI" k. 🫪
Screenshot from article:

Notably, the Guerrilla co-founder said he sees an opportunity for a game engine based on new construction principles and with "the full integration of AI"

According to Brussee, current popular game engines like Unreal were "made for and by people who have to click through a menu with a mouse. If you want to change something, it has to be done for the entire engine."

"The rise of Al means that we need to approach the development of this kind of crucial software differently," he said. "As an old hand with a vision of how things should work, I see opportunities there."

It's fun but it takes a lot of work to get it precise. And I am veneering the outside which unfortunately doesn't hide many crimes. Here's a full length but poorly angled shot from a test fit for the lights!
