Content creators: Got an outreach email for an indie game that's not quite for you? Consider forwarding it on to a creator pal who might dig it. And may your pillow always be cool.

Did you know playing game demos isn't just fun for you? They also help out game devs, especially when you're able to give constructive feedback right after! Can't wait to see what games they're cooking up for the expo this year🙌

I hate LinkedIn and it's only gotten worse since the death of Twitter, but it's also essential for games folks to find jobs. 😭 I have a similar relationship with email, hahaha.

There are a lot of other things to know about working in games 🫪 and holding jobs with a capital J, so the old career path coach in me has more to say. But in short: If you're serious about it and prepared for both the highs and lows, you could be set for a WHILE with your particular set of skills.

Most game marketing skills can be taught, I'll be honest, but someone with a real gift for content, audience engagement, and empathy AND they can pick up other marketing verticals while working well in a team, that's a rare talent.

150

Clara Sia 🍜 @seriouslyclara.bsky.social · 29/07/2026

Skills you take for granted are what makes indie devs want to walk into the ocean: - Writing/editing short videos - Being on camera/mic - Keeping up on trends/memes - Talking to people (lol, but fr) - Just being on social media EVERY DAY - Waking up and still being down to create content EVERY DAY

170

Clara Sia 🍜 @seriouslyclara.bsky.social · 29/07/2026

Unfortunately, many studios - especially indies - post inaccurate job titles. Look for roles that mention social media, community, brand, comms, and content in the title and then READ the descriptions. Often, what they're actually looking for is a content specialist with other marketing skills.

172

Clara Sia 🍜 @seriouslyclara.bsky.social · 29/07/2026

Most of these jobs are fully remote/WFH and 3- to 12-month contracts to start, but can often lead to permanent positions. They come in PT and FT terms, so you may still be able to make content on the side, barring any conflicts. These studios don't get social media, like at all. They need YOU.

171

Clara Sia 🍜 @seriouslyclara.bsky.social · 29/07/2026

I still hire game marketing roles for clients and this one's consistently hard to fill. Make a CV, quick-to-read portfolio WITH LINKS to your best work that you owned from start to finish, and strengthen your writing/comms/social media skills. Then watch videos on how to apply and interview. GO.

1101

Clara Sia 🍜 @seriouslyclara.bsky.social · 29/07/2026

I need all my content creator and video editor friends to know that your skills are marketing gold dust right now for game studios and if you want an industry job - esp. in high-quality short-form video - you need to get your ass on 👴🏻 LinkedIn and 🍄 @workwithindies.com and start looking posthaste.

Just another update from one of my sponsored pups at Soi Dog Phuket. Sweet, old, incontinent Paloka. 🧡

Hi Clara,

It’s your PawPal, Paloka!

I’ve spent nearly 3000 wonderful days here at the sanctuary. The gentle songs of the birds, the rustling trees in the cool breeze, and the smiling faces of kind humans make this place feel truly magical. I still embrace each day like I did in my younger years.

Every evening at mealtime, I think of you and the difference you make in my life. Because of my kidney disease, it’s so important that I have a special kidney-friendly diet to feel my best. Knowing that I’ll always have a nutritious meal to keep me happy and healthy is something I’m incredibly grateful for – and it’s all thanks to you, Clara.

As an older dog, I have a few aching joints and there’s a small lump on my spleen that’s being carefully monitored. I’m being well looked after, and my medication keeps me comfortable and pain-free.

Thank you,Clara, for being my hero. You’re putting the ‘golden’ in my golden years. Until next time, friend.

With love,
Paloka

Something that's kept me employable is my love of change. I don't just tolerate it - I crave it. Now that I'm a thousand years old and have switched careers ~10 times, I'm looking at the next change: slowing down. Still working! Just shifting focus to enjoy all that I've built, acquired, and love. 💛
