Yeah, but that's not the issue of the quote. Supposedly Ana's position will somehow advance LGBTQ rights - well, it won't.

China killed itself with pollution, insane population control, failed economic policies and totalitarianism. It's just as dead man walking as Russia. If US leaves Trumpists in power, they'll do the same to US. Europe is safe in the long run, just stay frosty and fight back. Always fight back.

Pretty much. We are now in a state of mind where reality and history starts over with every new tweet. Not to mention reading is hard, hurts our sensitive brains. So we are down to content creation and value signaling to whatever demographic we are after.

This is a perfect example how stupid identity politics really is. Brnabić's sexual identity DOESN'T make her follow politics that LGBTQ rights advocates do. Identity doesn't define anyone - non-white people can be racist, and lesbians can be authoritarian, etc. Her electorate doesn't care, as well.

China is way worse than US on any metric. And China doesn't hold elections. MAGAts will be gone one day, but the anti-Trump lunacy in Europe and the US left wing is clouding their judgement over those facts.

Nepal is just as desolate and impoverished as ever, hit by catastrophic floods, while Madagascar fell into deeper Russian orbit. Do the content creators care, since they cheered them on so much? Nah, they moved on to other stuff, and don't lose any sleep over it.

In their minds no harm done - to themselves. They got their clicks and engagement and revenue. Remember protests in Madagascar and Nepal? Huge news, everyone is following it, marketing departments rubbing their hands with profits. Nobody remembers those now, and they weren't successful protests. ⬇️

That always backfires. Not that it matters much now with Russia burning to cinders and losing in Ukraine, there's no one for Serbian nationalists to cling to. China is useless to them, because PRC doesn't give anything, they also just take, take, take. There's no future for both of these camps here.

Snyder's even worse - he simply KNOWINGLY regurgitated student propaganda how Serbia was ruined AFTER Milošević, which is no different than the Vučić's propaganda, but Snyder kinda framed students as some sort of anti-Putin movement that will lead Serbia out of Russian orbit.

...right-wing Serbian protesters who actually like Trump more than she thinks, and at the same time she compared the General Staff Temple of Evil ruin that to be demolished with Mt. Rushmore. She knew full well what she was doing, but hey, not like she gave a shit, she's safely far away in the US. ⬇️

Because they fit it into the narratives that their audience wants to hear. Take for example Maddow - when there were protests against Kushner property development in Belgrade, she framed it as an anti-MAGA thing for her anti-MAGA audience, while she was cheering on a bunch of homophobic...⬇️

NIFA published positions of candidates on the student list for the Serbian parliamentary elections on October 25, 2026. With a few positive examples, they include “former” signatories of support for A. Vučić, candidates/members of pro-Russian organizations, and others. 👇 nifainfo.org/sep-29-2026-...

But when it comes to the foreign content creators and "thought leaders" like Snyder, Maddow, Bieber, Fukuyama, just to name a few, or the social media posts from big accounts, I have nothing but disdain for their stubborn lies that this was somehow a progressive movement.

Thank you for the feedback and for the interest in the subject. The true nature of the student movement was reported in the European press, but it got as much attention as it deserves - Serbia isn't all that important. Serbian English-language press wasn't coy about it either. ⬇️

Very little hope for Serbia, period. Students' parents and grandparents made sure of that.

But no, the Wonderful Students(TM), the ones that Tim Snyder told us would change the world, joined hands with their elders who supported Vučić for decades and went into a chauvinist, anti-Western hysteria. And here they are now - standing proudly under Chinese canopies, blaming Ursula for it.

So the early critics of student anti-corruption demagogues and pro-Russian nationalists were told to shut up and "let the kids finish the job". And what job would that be, exactly? Apparently, turning Serbia into a 100% gubernia. It was a Chinese-built canopy that collapsed in Novi Sad. ⬇️

There is always this Greater Cause, you know, for which we have to lay down our blood and treasure. We have to "not give up on Kosovo" and "preserve the Republika Srpska" - those things are somehow always more important than having environmental protection or electricity. ⬇️

When the protests in Serbia started after the canopy collapse in Novi Sad in the autumn of 2024, to the locals and to the Western foreign ministries, it was obvious from the start that the students were a bunch of radicalized right-wingers. Those who started pointing it out were shushed up. ⬇️

No need to apologize. You got it right, just not the way most folks want it to be. It is a tragedy like a motherfucker - without Serbia, who will produce turbo-folk music, excrete raw sewage into Danube, or organize hybrid operations on Russia's behalf? HOW WILL THE HUMANITY MOVE ON???

At my previous employer, we had a guy who moved from Nigeria to Belgrade. He has an MBA, but he got a job at a stinking Serbian factory in 12-hour shifts. He chose hard, yet honest work BENEATH his education, instead of joining the Russian gang of murderers, rapists and looters.

But coming out as an individual generally doesn't lead to ostracism. Most of the middle age straight people, both male and female, tend to adopt "live and let live" approach. The elderly are either amused by the wealth of information about the "varieties" of sexuality that is now available...⬇️

The thing about the Serbian society's level of acceptance of LGBTQ people is actually rather high - as long as you keep it to yourself and don't appear as "flaunting it in someone's face". Gay pride events are frowned upon and attract hecklers, with police securing the venue. ⬇️

Brnabić is also on the campaign trail, mingling with supporters of the ruling party. Common folks are genuinely accepting of her - it's not staged or faked out of fear or sycophancy. She still gets flak from the right-wing opposition for the sexual identity, but her constituency doesn't care. ⬇️

The conventional wisdom would suggest that the Serbian weirdly conservative, right-wing electorate, especially the one that votes for the ruling Progressives, would be rather miffed with that. Well, they don't. "Rules for thee, but not for me" is is not considered duplicitous here. ⬇️

After Vučić's resignation, Ana Brnabić, the speaker of the parliament, is now the acting President of Serbia, making it the SECOND time Serbia has an LGBTQ person as a head of state or government. Amazing, huh - the most pro-Russian elective autocracy in Europe has a lesbian leader, again. ⬇️

This wasn't the first, nor the last time something like this happened. Both Serbia and the Republika Srpska Serb entity of Bosnia are still in a Mladić frenzy after his funeral, evidenced by an increase (as if there wasn't plenty of that before) in "The General's" murals in urban areas.
