Instagram comments are wild.
“I’m not defending JK Rowling and her bigoted views towards trans people but just a quick reminder that Harry Potter was written closer to the decriminalisation of homosexuality in the UK than it was to today so seems harsh to judge it by today’s standards” apparently written in earnest about a series of books whose last entry was published in 2007. Homosexuality was decriminalised in the UK in 1967.

A dingy dive of a place on Hollywood and Western called The Study. A group of about five of us frequented it from high school. A drag queen once beat the shit out of a man in the parking lot for calling me a faggot.

Woke originates from “stay woke” a phrase used by Black people to remind each other of the insidious nature of white supremacy, so “woke 1” did no such thing. White people co-opted it, then misused it, then used it as a mocking pejorative.
Screenshot of text with author removed: “woke 1 made the mistake of making people think it was problematic to make fun of healing crystals and astrology. Woke 2 must be focused on the destruction of white shamanism”

It’s what the BBC is calling them? Assume it’s an official name like firefighting apparatus in the US.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service says nine appliances and three high-reach vehicles remain at the scene
The fire took hold of the Victorian buildings neighbouring the station and the dome at one corner collapsed
However, Network Rail said it had not identified any significant damage to the station itself

How on earth do you call yourself “Labour” and have such open disdain for the workers who take care of your sick and elderly, for the people who walked to work during lockdown to provide aid to the dying in overburdened care homes. You say you’ll prioritise high earners and then dare call this fair.
Those who contribute less will have to wait longer to apply. This includes those low-skilled workers, who arrived in recent years, who would otherwise receive immediate access to welfare and social housing. Should that be allowed to happen, this cost would be borne by hard-working taxpayers across the country, and place yet more pressure on already stretched public services.
