Good point from this guy about the high street and betting shops on the other place. Think betting shops themselves are a bit of a misnomer now given the restrictions on the number of machines/stakes now imposed on them, unlike the online casinos/Cashinos.

Betting shops are licensed, regulated, taxed, and employ tens of thousands of people. Grouping them with "dodgy businesses" isn't a serious description of a regulated sector. It's also aimed at the wrong targetr. Betting shops: 8,822 -> 5,872 over the decade. Adult gaming: 1,610 -> 1,502. Barbers: 2,953 -> 18,078. Takeaways: 2,882 -> 13,478. Whatever has reshaped the high street, it isn't gambling premises. And with each new announcement, more jobs are lost.

Very odd how a war apparently already won, where every missile launcher, ship, leader etc has already been destroyed or killed requires us to get further and further involved, almost as if every single thing we are being told is a complete fucking lie

The UK has approved US use of its bases in the "collective self-defence" of the region, including "defensive operations" degrading Iranian missile sites targeting ships in the strait of Hormuz.

One of the defining features of this war has been the unreality of the official statements from our leaders. If you went by nothing else you would think that Iran was the aggressor and not defending itself from attacks by our allies in what for the theocracy is an existential war.
