I actually agree that Americans have a lot more to worry about right now. Like preserving the last shreds of democracy, and crushing GOP at the polls. A single case of plague in Russia is not something worth panicking about.

There have been cases of pneumonic plague in the US in recent years. It still doesn’t spread easily person to person. I’m not seeing anything in any of the news reports about this incident that is particularly unusual.

Speaking of QR codes, I had this experience trying to make a purchase. The $29 item I wanted was locked away in a cage. There was a sign to scan a QR code to get assistance.

A message on my phone after I scanned the QR code so that I could buy the $29 merchandise. “Hang tight. We’re searching for an associate to assist you”

Some time later, the message updated to let me know no one was coming

I parked at a garage the other day that made me scan a QR code and download an app so that I could pay to leave the garage. Also, i had no signal in the garage. I had to walk outside to get a phone signal so I could pay.

That’s the thing. Someone has symptoms of pneumonia, and plague is not the first thing doctors. And it can progress quickly, so it doesn’t need to be a long delay.
