I drew a new avatar. It's what I looked like on my birthday this year.

It's me. Green eyes, curly hair, lightly tan skin. I'm wearing a black turtleneck sweater underneath an olive coat. Out of frame my nails are painted forest green. On my right ring finger is a moss agate ring on a silver band. What a cold night it was.

A selected scene from my unfinished novel. Orseis, a slug from outer space, discovers life on Earth and wants to make friends. After accidentally killing a priestess in that pursuit, the Greek goddess Hera appears and the two speak. Transcript below.

To the slug Hera says the following: “Since I cannot trust you to be harmless on earth, and I would not incur my brother’s wrath by interring you unto the underworld’s care, I will make a place for you on our mountaintop. A stable by the steps should suffice. You are after all... shaped rather differently from us.”
This makes Orseis cheer, “Oh thank you, queen of everything! You marvelous maker, what goodness!”
“Thank me not,” Hera tells her. “Now follow me into the clouds, where my home is off the maps of men. Or before that, answer me but a query or two.”
The meagre eyes make the crooked teeth on Orseis’ skirt go blunt. “Heehee-ha! Of course, ask away!”
“How old are you?”
“Older than you.”
“And up there, in Chaos’ realm. How did you survive?”
Orseis looks at you.
Yes. *You.*
And she says, “Just lucky, I guess!”
