one of five small pieces i wrote for the @treblezine.bsky.social 150 greatest albums of the 90s list. never thought i could distill my feelings about this album into a short burst (I could write at least 9,000 words on this record), but I think it turned out alright.

a capsule review of Nine Inch Nails – The Downward Spiral
“Few 1990s albums have aged as little as Nine Inch Nails’ signature ode to self destruction. The Downward Spiral sounds like it could’ve been made this year. Nothing in the implacable hell’s-dancefloor beat of “Closer,” the punishing riffs on “Heresy” and “I Do Not Want This,” the shapeshifting industrial-punk of “March of the Pigs” or the factory clank of “Reptile” would sound out of place on recent albums by HEALTH, Uniform, or clipping. Above all else, The Downward Spiral has stood time’s test because of Reznor’s uncanny ear for hooks and knack for distilling human darkness. It’s tempting in our hyper ironic age to chuckle at lyrics like “God is dead/And no one cares” or “Don’t you tell me how I feel/You don’t know just how I feel!” But virtually everyone reading this has felt both of those things, at that level of brutal simplicity and despair. Quite a few albums on this list have saved lives; I know this one saved mine.”

“leave me alone,” i scream, as if i didn’t invite angry reactions by literally lying and saying adderall (four variants of amphetamine and dextroamphetamine) and meth (pure dextromethamphetamine and levoamphetamine in an HCl salt form) are the same thing

The landlord raised our rent by 30% and priced us out. We need housing and $7000 by June 1, but think we can save $4000+ if we can get help with the rest. My partner was fired last fall and we’ve been through one crisis after another since. He’s worked a bit as a contractor, but his income is never guaranteed. I’m disabled by chronic pain, degenerative disc disease, and intense trauma. I’m trying to get SSDI but I’m only partway through the process. We’ve been homeless with pets before and are horrified it could happen again. Thank you so much for reading, sharing, and contributing to our future.
