Found out today(!!!), shame on me: Michel Giacometti, an ethnomusicologist born in Corsica, moved to Portugal in 1959, right in the middle of the dictatorship and spent 30 years recording our traditional folk music. Thanks to him we still have this heritage today. #Portugal #Corsica #Giacometti

and deeper trenches mean less discussion & more fights. This book walks through several examples, the most famous being the Dreyfus Affair (example of a board game below). Sadly there's no english translation yet so I can't quite recommend it, but it felt unfair not to mention it. #nobots #wsocial

Culture wars aren't new. Rui Tavares in "Hipocritões e Olhigarcas" defines them in 3 traits: forced sides, identity over substance, outsized emotion. That's what bots exploit: not inventing fights, just watering the ones already loaded. Result? Deeper trenches: and some dig faster than others. 👇
Book cover for "Hipocritões e Olhigarcas: Passado e Futuro das Guerras Culturais" by Rui Tavares, published by Tinta-da-China. Terracotta background with a dark central illustration of an animal mask, resembling a dog or wolf with pointed ears, hollow round eyes, and a long snout.

Fake accounts don't need to invent lies: they just make an opinion look more popular than it is. The algorithm does the rest turning a manufactured crowd into a real debate. The far-right profits from this. So before we believe 'everyone thinks that way' we must ask: who's everyone? #WSocial #NoBots
Flat-design illustration of a man walking through a tunnel-like corridor, absorbed in his phone. The ceiling above him is filled with rows of identical generic human-icon silhouettes, repeating into the distance like a manufactured crowd, while the man himself is rendered as a distinct dark figure below them.

International Dog Day, be aware 🐕
Black and white photo of a black dog standing in a narrow passage between rustic brick and stone walls, tongue hanging out and bits of straw stuck to its snout. It wears a collar and stares straight at the camera, with a dirt floor and scattered debris underfoot.

"I can't stand in line at the store The mean little people are such a bore But it's alright if you act like a turd Cause I like Birds" - Eels 🎶
Black and white photo of a slate-tiled roof ridge under a heavy, overcast sky. Two crows perch side by side on the ridge line near a brick chimney with a metal flue on the right. In the foreground, a white-trimmed gable peak rises above dark, leafless shrubs.

You can make your own version but In my head, it went like this: - Hello, mine is bigger than yours. - Uh, come again? - I said: MY SNAIL is bigger than yours. - Oh, and how did you manage that? - Freedom, I guess. This is located in Namur, in Belgium.
A statue placed in Namur, Belgium, depicts two men. Each man has a snail: one has a snail next to him trapped in a cage and therefore has a smaller snail than the other man, whose snail is free. The one with the bigger snail is saying something to the other man.
