"What an asset" is how SELO's leader, Daniel Pukach, was described in Dave Smith's leaving speech, and he was right 👌 Our sectional with him last week was the latest opportunity to learn from his extraordinary knowledge of string instrument technique 🎻 We also had tasty treats during the interval 😋

Beethoven's 5th is sometimes known as the Fate Symphony because of the "fate knocking at the door" opening motif, as shown in this cello part. If you're reading this then you are clearly fated to come to our concert on Sunday - tickets and details below! www.ticketsource.com/south-east-l...

Rehearsals are underway for our next concert, featuring Beethoven's 5th Symphony. Did you know that it premiered with his 6th in 1808? That gig was a freezing, 4 hour test of audience endurance. We’re aiming to rival the historical impact, but we promise the heating will be significantly better 😉

selorchestra.bsky.social @selorchestra.bsky.social · 23/03/2026

It's a wrap! Our first concert of 2026 was a Scottish celebration to rival Hogmanay, with highlights being the appearance of the Loch Ness Mackintosh and, of course, Fenella Humphreys' bonnie performance. Here are some photos of the dress rehearsal and cake. See you in May, aye! 😉

It's the first of December so as a sort of musical Advent Calendar, what's behind the first door in Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition? It's "The Gnome" - Hartmann's sketch (on which these vignets are based) is thought to represent a design for a nutcracker displaying large teeth.
