Two for the price of one for #SaturdayShowoff this week - two iconic 1960s #Manchester buses. And you can ride on both of them next weekend at our 'Ticket to Ride' event - details on our website www.motgm.uk/events-theme...
Two nineteen sixties buses stand next to each other. On the left is a double decker, number one double oh one, the first Mancunian bus. The single decker on the right is number seventy-four, a Leyland panther cub. They're both in Manchester's red colour scheme.

Our 'Ticket to Ride' event this weekend will be brill - and busy. Parking will be hard to find, so please come by public transport if you can. Free heritage bus 5 will bring you from Shudehill (stand H) at 00/30 minutes past the hour, and from Corporation St (stop NU) at 25/55 minutes past the hour.
A poster advertises the ticket to ride event that's happening at the museum of transport on Saturday and Sunday the twenty eighth and twenty ninth of March. The poster includes timetable information for the event, and at the bottom two of the museum's nineteen sixties buses show the kind of thing that'll be on offer from free heritage bus rides.

For #ThrowbackThursday this week we're at Parrs Wood, watching 'Mancunian' bus 2130 waiting to go back up Kingsway. Now, here's a fact: 2130 still exists in preservation AND it'll be at our 'Ticket to Ride' event this weekend - come along and see the real thing... motgm.uk/events-theme...
A black and white photo shows a Greater Manchester Transport bus at Parrs Wood, south of Manchester, on service fifty to Manchester. The fleet number of the bus is twenty-one thirty, and this bus still survives in preservation today.

#Bury 116 didn't want to play last year due to electrical gremlins - thanks to much hard work, an electrical overhaul has now got it working better (and more brightly) than it has done for many years. It'll be giving free rides at our 'Ticket to Ride event on 28/29 March. motgm.uk/events-theme...
An evening photo inside the Museum of Transport shows the front panel and windscreen of Bury 116, one of the museum's collection of classic buses. The headlights and main beam lights are switched on - they're nice and bright. They didn't work previously, and the museum's volunteers have fixed them.

Sometimes, opportunities come that are too good to pass, for reasons not everyone will agree with. Leyland Bus ceased to exist 33 years ago & parts will only become more scarce as time marches on. So we jumped at the chance to purchase SELNEC 7008, after it had fallen on hard times, for spare parts.

Currently wearing an upper silver, lower maroon livery, the bus has some very good condition parts both bodily and mechanically which will be of tremendous use to the groups operational Atlanteans of a similar vintage.Photo shows the front nearside of former SELNEC Park Royal Leyland Atlantean double decker bus, 7008 VNB108L which was converted to open top by East Yorkshire Motor Services in the 1980s, on the back of a red, white and blue six legger Scania tow wagon. As part of the refresh of EX1 we have had its original number blinds remade. These are of the Mancunian style with sharp angles used by MCTD. The later curved numerals and blinds would come later. These (along with a replica via blind) have been expertly made by Blinds by PWC and Peter Watts.

Manchesters first prototype Standard vehicle, EX1 PNF 941J (a Leyland Atlantean whose chassis was a legecy order of Ashton Corporation) has been in slumber for quite afew years. Now awoken once more, it will be a feature on the rally circuit next year. But not before a well deserved repaint!
