Underrated self-hosting win: running your own DNS with Pi-hole or AdGuard Home. Not for the ad blocking (though that's nice). For the visibility. You see exactly what every device on your network is calling home to. My smart TV makes 3,000+ DNS requests per day. To domains I've never heard of.
