🤔 How many types of earthquakes can you identify in a subduction zone? Each type is relevant to seismic and tsunami hazards. 🌍 In DISS and EFSM20 (seismofaults.eu), the 3D model of the subducting slab captures both interface and intraslab seismicity. Picture from: doi.org/10.1007/978-...

Why does DISS represent faults as wide ribbons rather than lines? 🌍 The DISS database (diss.ingv.it) maps the fault footprint of the entire fault 3D surface. This helps us visualise fault intersections at depth and is vital for geology and hazard modelling. Example from 👉 doi.org/10.1029/2022...

What is the difference between a seismogenic fault and a capable fault? 🤔 💥 Seismogenic fault: The source of an earthquake at depth. 🌍 Capable fault: A fault with potential for displacement at or near the surface. Want to connect the two? Check out PDF-Italy (seismofaults.eu/pdf-italy). 1/4

🚨New database out! 👉 seismofaults.eu/pdf-italy PDF-Italy integrates DISS (diss.ingv.it) and ITHACA (sgi.isprambiente.it/ithacaweb/de...) into a system of principal and distributed faulting, a framework commonly adopted in coseismic surface faulting hazard studies.
