You’re right. Those safeguards were built after years of hard lessons in Iraq & Afghanistan. They weren’t just about protecting civilians; they were meant to protect the soldiers carrying out the missions too.

That tanker’s oil might belong to 5 different players: an oil co, trader, shipper, bank financing d cargo, or another country. Ownership may change while it’s still sailing. Seize it anyway & stick taxpayers w/ d millions in legal fights & logistics. 🙄

Clear out seasoned military leaders. Shrink d teams that track civilian harm. Push aside d lawyers who know the rules of war. When every layer of oversight vanishes at once, it’s hard not to wonder if d goal’s fewer mistakes or fewer people able to expose them.
