You're just not a great fit for us... Could I have done a great job for the client – definitely. Might there be someone else with an advantage or skill-set I don't have – probably. Sometimes it's better to stand out than to fit in. And yes, this pavement/drain cock-up really upsets me... #design

Sometimes you have to go through the fire... crafted Yakisugi speakers from Studio Ambre and Phasis Audio. Once fully assembled, they’re set on fire with the very real possibility that nothing will be left when the burn box opens. studioambre.com -- #audio #design

No, you're not being paranoid, this chair is judging you. Welcome to Uncanny Valley, the wonderfully playful furniture design of twins Simon and Nikolai Haas, where nothing is off-limits. After all, wood has eyes and chairs and tables usually have legs! madmuseum.org/exhibition/h... #furniture

Is it time to change direction... Sometimes you reach a point when things need to shift. When an end of a road is reached, a new avenue often opens up. This is "Arrow, 2001" from kinetic artist Sebastian Hempel: sebastianhempel.com/index.html -- #art #design

Balls... I think I've left it long enough now. I'm over the big loss we recently suffered on the pitch, I've resisted the blame and negativity, even if the hurt continues... And the new J-Swerve is a thing of immense craft and beauty. 12p.com/products/j-s... -- #football #design

I order things naturally: colour, size, height – it helps a lot with design, and is probably why I do what I do. This is clearly an obsession shared by photographer Austin Bell whose amazing series Shooting Hoops is just jaw-dropping. bellaustin.com/shooting-hoops #colour #order #design

Not sure about you, but I find that feeling uncomfortable. I can often sense someone looking at me before I see them (or at least think I can). And the tyranny of 'collaboration' in my Figma file makes me a little uneasy. Meet LittleBrother from design studio BankerWessel: www.littlebrother.se

If it walks like a duck... Generative AI has its challenges, but is also providing many new creative opportunities, at least for those willing to engage and (crucially) able to judge. This is BANANADUCK, from creative thinker and surreal artist Ken Kelleher: kenkelleher.com #bananaduck #design

What piece of 'wisdom' did you never really believe... Mine, in the world of design at least, is the old "keep it all above the fold". This never really made sense to me, you just can't fit everything up there!! The fold moves, all the time! This is Moonment (2024) by Sizhu Li: www.sizhuli.com

If everything pops, nothing pops... Everything is just noise after a while, and cutting through this is getting much harder. That affects marketing, advertising, branding and art as well as sound and music. This is a brilliant sound installation by artist Dylan Sheridan: www.dylansheridan.com

The customer is always right... No matter how hard you try, how clever your headline, how simple your CTA, they may still ignore you. Just don't take it personally, and remember: seagulls are bastards!!

If AI is making you sick, maybe the best remedy is to immerse yourself in real, physical, art. This is the wonderful "Pepto Bismol in a Marble Box" by sculptor Charles Ray. Over 900 litres of the pink stuff, should be able to settle your stomach! www.charlesraysculpture.com/collections/ #art

When you put your neck on the line... If you truly believe in your purpose, if your product really is better than everyone else's or if your client's branding is too generic, you have to stand up and speak truth. This is the excellent work of photographer Ben Zank: www.benzank.com #design

Listen up, it's really important. To listen that is, and really hear what your client, customer, child or partner is saying. Then you may have any hope of understanding them, and ultimately, helping. This is a Fennec Fox from the Sahara with very big ears who listens well!! #listen #design
