I tried the new, still anonymous, Ox Alpha model by having it do some work on github.com/seehuhn/go-pdf . My impressions: The model is capable, maybe a bit weaker than Opus 5.0 at coding, but not much. It is very good at doing long tasks without losing focus, maybe better than Opus. 1/n

Who is better at maths, Claude Opus 4.8 at "xhigh" effort, or Claude Fable 5 at "high" effort?

I really enjoyed the light show at #York minster. In my opinion, it's even better than last year. If you haven't seen it yet: The show is still on, 6-9pm, until 2nd March (repeats every 10 minutes).

During the pandemic, a heron took residence on the University of Leeds campus. I had not seen it in a long time, but today he is back. (Or maybe his friend is. How old does a heron get?) Hello heron 😊

Sometimes, #DeepSeek is overthinking things a bit. I should probably have untoggled the "DeepThink (R1)" button before saying thank you.

New water feature in #York. Maybe the flooding somehow causes water to be pushed out from underneath these metal covers? Or is this an unrelated pipe break?

ChatGPT wrote a very nice summary of the short story "Things" by Ursula K. Le Guin for me: chatgpt.com/share/6750a1... . The only downside: the summary has nearly nothing to do with the actual story. A bit like Stanislaw Lem writing reviews of non-existent books.
