I think a lot of people (more than we realize) are looking for an acceptable target more than they're looking for freedom, justice, or liberation.

republicans: we're gonna eradicate trans people. we're gonna take away their rights and healthcare, and make it a crime to go in public. liberal 'allies': oh yeah? Why is that? because you're having GAY thoughts about them! gotcha!

"i just have a hard time with the pronouns thing" like damn, I'd love to see your 2nd grade report card. I'd love to see how often you trip up with other people. "oh i didn't know that trans woman is two words" I can't imagine how you wouldn't tbh, seeing as how adjectives work.

Like, no matter how much of an ally you think you are, you are just going to say wildly transphobic things if that is what you think. It's gonna come out in your grammar and it's not subtle at all.

The thing thats amazing is, grammar is quite like a programming language for humans You can tell a lot about how someone views trans people by the type of variable [noun, adjective, etc] they think the word is Like, sorry but its not hard to see that you think a trans woman is a man (but womanly)

i feel stupid when i clock it as though it can't possibly be meaningful but cis people capitalising Trans is also just another one of those shibboleth moments. where do they get this idea from?

honestly, the average liberal's understanding of trans people is not all that different than the average republican's

it is very weird to make jokes like this about a minority. especially one that has lost a ton of rights/protections over the past couple years.

I genuinely want liberal, self proclaimed allies, to truly examine why people who make trans women always the butt of the joke are able to have such large platforms & followings. Why is this acceptable to you & what might that say about your own views?

not to mention the fact that they seemingly think trans people exist as nothing other than a mascot for them to name in opposition to republicans, as opposed to like, an oppressed minority group

the number of liberals in the quotes and replies going "yas OMG" and "this is so brilliant" is actually giving so much psychic damage. Cartoonifying & infantilizing a minority that the current governing party wants to 'eradicate' speaks to an unbelievable level of detachment & voyeurism

like, genuinely just call me a fag at that point like... I don't understand what compels cis liberals to do/say stuff like this, as if trans people exist solely for the purpose of one-liner cornball politics. The lack of self awareness or seriousness is astounding

this is a big *it depends* but it is always important to remember that someone can say all of the right things and still be doing the wrong things. Just look at Neil Gaiman. He said the right things publicly. Obviously, we know that this did not translate into his personal life.

A secret third thing @secretthirdthing.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
it is entirely contextual. but the easiest example to reach for would be something like, removing a person from any sort of supervisory position they may have once again though, it varies and is entirely contextual.

i don't know if this knowledge is region-locked to the UK or something but i've been feeling completely insane about this i would like the idea that charitable work meaningfully indicates growth or good-will to encounter the existence, crimes, and institutional defences of Jimmy fucking Savile.

What a victim says or doesn't say they want is meaningless when the perpetrator remains in a position of power over them, as they cannot, by definition, be truly free to express their wants or needs without fear of retribution. I suggest reading a bit more on this, from books specifically.

I will not take any discussion of 'restorative justice' seriously (especially in regards to sexual assault) that does not contain or aknowledge that the *first step* is to remove the person's ability to do further harm.

Lastly, the idea that having sex with one man implies that a woman is "sexually available" to men broadly is also very overtly rape culture. Much more so if you imply that it carries over to *all* women of the same identity/orientation This is not difficult, or complicated, or even all that nuanced

Blaming one woman's sexual activity for patriarchy is *wild*. The idea that any woman isn't 'allowed' to have sex with *anyone* is harmful in so many ways. It's not enlightened, or woke, or feminist. It's just slut shaming & rape culture to think women owe you anything re: their own sexuality.

The reason this issue has me so up in arms today, is because I am seeing many proclaimed feminists, using backwards arguments about 'protecting lesbianism from men' as a defense for the pitchforks pointed towards a woman who simply stated her own experience.
2140
A secret third thing @secretthirdthing.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Suggesting that one woman's actions can threaten the identity of *all* lesbians, or that it imposes expectations on all lesbians, is denying womens' autonomy. Demanding that someone else's sexual activity make sense to *you* is harmful. full stop.
1140
A secret third thing @secretthirdthing.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Women are denied the internality of sexual orientation. This is why this discourse exists for lesbians but not gay men. Slut shaming a lesbian via the pretense that she is 'centering' some unidentified man, is straightforwardly a demand for sexual purity. In no way does that 'protect' lesbians.
1180
A secret third thing @secretthirdthing.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
The impulse to 'protect' the label of lesbianism, is not about 'decentering men' It is about the pervasive cultural notion that womens' sexuality must be policed, scrutinized, and controlled Outrage at a lesbian sleeping with a man, has nothing to do with men. it's about the woman's sexual agency.

People can have sex outside of attraction. You not being able to understand does not mean it doesn't happen.

if they have no idea who the other person is, then how, in any sense, could they be understood as having an attraction to that person, much less people of that gender more generally?
110
A secret third thing @secretthirdthing.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
There are quite literally entire communities of people where some people choose to have sex with people they do not even see.
110
A secret third thing @secretthirdthing.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
not everyone has the same views, values, or feelings about sex that you do and that is okay.

The funniest part, to me at least, is that seemingly she finds meaningless sex easier with men precisely because she *isn't* attracted to them

A secret third thing @secretthirdthing.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
This is about a lesbian who sleeps with men sometimes when she feels like having meaningless/uncomplicated sex. A bunch of pple are up in arms claiming that shes not a 'real' lesbian because a 'real' lesbian would be disgusted by the idea of sex with a man (as opposed to neutral)

I mean, it just goes to show how far back things have gotten in even just a couple years. In 2023 this would have been entirely uncontroversial/a non issue. But alas, with the rise of fascism, we are seeing more queer folks grasp onto puritan views towards sex as an assimilationist reflex
171
A secret third thing @secretthirdthing.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Furthermore, we must address the incredibly dangerous implication that sexual behavior in one instance *must* imply sexual availability in the future. That is literally just patriarchal rape culture.
2192
A secret third thing @secretthirdthing.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
On it's face this is a small discourse about one celebrity's sexual behavior, but the truth is, the widespread shaming of her is representative of a larger trend of homonormative slut shaming & queer puritainism on the rise. Slut shaming is what creates the environment for victim blaming.
1201
A secret third thing @secretthirdthing.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Aknowledging that one person does one thing, does not imply that all people must do that thing. Also, having sex with one man in no way makes a woman 'sexually available' to all men in general. This is just, on its face, slut shaming & homophobia.

A secret third thing @secretthirdthing.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Except in no way shape or form does saying that one persons' sexual activity doesn't change their sexual orientation imply that other people of the same orientation *must* be willing to engage in the same behavior.
