Two new specimens landed in github.com/rock3r/biopa...! 1. Component anatomy — a groovy exploded Jewel button (sound on!) Vaguely inspired by someone showing off fancy fragment shaders — for once, I did something without shaders :D

10 months on from the Opus 4.5 moment, it feels like Opus 5.5 is another definite step change in agent abilities. What a model, incredible. Sips tokens, too. Lovely stuff.

👋 Hey Friends! There's so much happening in the XR industry right now! #AndroidDevSummit is SOOO back! And we're gonna have a TON of XR content! 😎OH! Did I mention it's 2 events? 🇺🇸 -> rsvp.withgoogle.com/events/android-dev-summit-bayview 🇬🇧 -> rsvp.withgoogle.com/events/android-dev-summit-london

And note that I am not saying this is anywhere near the quality that a highly skilled human could do! Not the content, not the visuals, and certainly not the music. But it's as good as I could make in a few days of compositing in Cavalry, and definitely better than any music I could create :D

seb @sebastiano.dev · 27/09/2026
The part that's even more mind boggling to me is that it synthesised the music from Python, then it inspected the waveform and spectrogram to make sure it was ok. Hooowwwww lol this is black magic

This is the prompt, adapted from one I saw online. It chugged along for like 25 minutes. Out it came with the video.

Ok this is just ridiculous. This is Opus 5.5, one-shot, using @cavalryapp.bsky.social with just an MCP to control it. Damn. I mean the slop tropes are all there, but I gave it zero direction.

Three new specimens caught in github.com/rock3r/biopa... and recreated in Compose — originals linked there, too. Pretty wild what you can reproduce with 1–3 prompts and a good model. Of course, original creation is harder than copy! But this is still, honestly, incredible to me.

Small dot release – Spectre 0.7.1 is out now on Maven Central. Downgrades a few dependencies to remain compatible with the latest IntelliJ Platform stable version, no functional changes.

Ah worth knowing :) in this case I was using Codex and started from a "I wonder if" kind of question. So the IDE plugin creation came before I opened the IDE 😁

seb @sebastiano.dev · 22/09/2026
This was bootstrapped by Astra :) I know there's a template project and all but tbh I needed 1/10th of the setup it does, and agents are able to do the basic setup themselves. Only annoyance was making sure it uses up to date dependencies (such as @chrzanowski.info' IJPL plugin, Kotlin, etc)

Not nearly as granular as tracing of course but I'm not trying to reimplement Perfetto XD although I reckon some better integration to launch and import traces would be cool, if you need more granular info. In fact this data comes from the same hooks that tracing uses...

Yeah I think that's the main useful bit here, being able to see what was recomposed how much and how long for in total and on avg can be helpful when you have perf issues
100
seb @sebastiano.dev · 21/09/2026
Also to be said I think the more interesting thing is recomposition counting so you get a poor man's indication of what's recomposing. The plugin goes to extreme lengths to say over and over again not to over index on stability at least 😁 I'd love to have tracing inlays tho at some point

You want your coding agent to know about this, too? You're in luck, the plugin comes with an MCP server and a skill to tell your agent how to use it. Plus, it has one-click installers for both, supporting a bunch of the most common agents out there. (note: this UI is very WIP, will change by 1.0)

What does the plugin do, you may ask? It launches with its first feature, Compose stability analysis. Similar to, and inspired by, github.com/skydoves/com..., but optimised for Compose on JVM and making the most of the features that desktop makes easier.

I have seen Codex blasting through usage really quickly. My testing seems to suggest the issue is that it keeps observing long-running tasks (e.g., Gradle builds) and that floods the context window and costs a ton. bb.staticvar.dev or github.com/chrisbanes/s... help a lot with it

Yeah open models are getting real good even at Android. I still see a difference in value between these, who are great workhorses, and Fable/Astra who are great architects. But yeah mid-tier models are having their lunch eaten by open weights.

I respect people who don't want to, or don't like to, everyone is entitled to their opinions. But that doesn't invalidate the "if you wanted to, you could be doing this too" message which is what I wrote in the OP.
000
seb @sebastiano.dev · 20/09/2026
But that was never the audience that I was talking to. I don't expect a random Joe from the street to do this. I expect professional developers (and especially their employers) to have access to models, even if limited by budget.
100
seb @sebastiano.dev · 20/09/2026
There are extremely cheap subscriptions like opencode go which will get you a great bang for the (10) bucks. You can't tell me the cost of two or three coffees a month is unaffordable for anyone who's doing it professionally. I agree for a hobbyist or student that still makes a difference.

seb @sebastiano.dev · 20/09/2026
You can get free or almost free models to help you get started if you really want to and can't figure it out by yourself (that stuff is difficult!). Of course you can't get free hardware and you pay for the savings with your time spent setting up and maintaining. But that's not something AI changes
100
seb @sebastiano.dev · 20/09/2026
You can get a decent way towards this with local models too, these days. Yes you need hardware and yes it's getting more expensive by the day. You can also get them served by cloud inference if you want, for real cheap. No free lunch to be had, sadly. Yet, business can afford it if not individuals.
