Gotta admit, this is an excellent name for a group of knitters that meets at a bar:

Being at the International Transport Forum this week has been eye-opening and engaging. Lots of good ideas and discussions. I'll write up my thoughts at length for www.mobilityengineeringtech.com in a few days, but for now, some official pictures and words. #ITFSummit
A quote from the Spanish Minister for Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente Santiago, at ITF Summit 2026: "20th century infrastructure is unable to resist 21st century climate change."
A quote from Ghent University Professor of Cycling Meredith Glaser at ITS Summit 2026: "If the environment allows an eight-year-old child to cycle to school alone, it means that resilience is there."
A quote from Geert Van Waeg, president of the International Federation of Pedestrians at IFT Summit 2026: "Walking is resilient by nature; we need to start building cities for people."

I have no idea what's going on with my #OtterAI, but it's displaying the menu item "Transcript" with "Tragronnscript." Anyone ever see anything like this?

For some reason, I was sent a new #travel #security #alert for major US cities. It looks like this:
Screenshot of an email from Garda Security that announces a Travel Security Alert for major US cities due to protests over military strikes in Venezuela. It reads, in part: "US, Canada: Demonstrations in major cities likely to continue through mid-January over US military actions in Venezuela

Protests related to US military actions in Venezuela likely across the US and Canada through at least mid-January. Disruptions likely.

 	Severity¹: Moderate
 	Categories: Infrastructural Overland Security Unrest
Locations: Canada ยง United States ยง
Timeframe²: Expected from January 5, 2026 2:53 AM until January 15, 2026 11:59 PM (UTC).

Event

Demonstrations related to the recent US military actions in Venezuela are likely in major cities across the US and Canada through at least mid-January. This follows the US government’s launch of Operation Absolute Resolve, which involved airstrikes against key Venezuelan military and security infrastructure in Caracas and the detention of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Jan. 3.

Most demonstrations are likely to oppose US military intervention, though some expressions of support are probable. Protest activity is expected primarily near US government buildings, including consulates in Canada, with additional gatherings probable at public squares and historical landmarks.

This is Akio Toyoda, #nepobaby CEO of #Toyota. He wore #MAGA gear at a recent #NASCAR race. Remember this image next time you go car shopping: www.autonews.com/toyota/an-toyota-a…

Fans not only boo-ed the president loudly at the #Lions-#Commanders #NFL game yesterday, but at least one gave him the double eagle directly to his ugly face. #NoKings

The beautiful #NorthCountryTrail is a growing national treasure. The things listed below are minor things, in the big picture, but still a shitty result of the #Shutdown.

I'm actually surprised it's only 33%.
Screenshot of a press release from SEMA saying the following:

SEMA URGES EPA TO RESCIND GREENHOUSE GAS ENDANGERMENT FINDING
-- Automotive aftermarket leader highlights the importance of empowering American innovators to flex their engineering prowess to reduce emissions

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sept. 23, 2025) – The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) is urging the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to follow through with its proposal to rescind a dubious policy position that empowered regulators at the federal and state levels to deprive Americans of vehicle choice through electric vehicle (EV) mandates that were out of step with marketplace realities.

Because a third of SEMA’s members are internal combustion engine (ICE) dependent, the organization was especially motivated to share its views on the EPA’s proposed rule, which can chart an important new direction for innovation and vehicle choice and promises to protect a $100 billion segment of the U.S. economy, including more than 330,000 U.S. jobs.

In comments responding to the EPA’s rulemaking for Docket ID No. EPA–HQ–OAR–2025–0194 — Reconsideration of the 2009 Endangerment Finding and Greenhouse Gas Vehicle Standards, SEMA identified economic and cultural considerations for re-establishing a foundation of vehicle choice in the U.S. automotive market, which, because of recent GHG emissions policies, have experienced an erosion of affordability and innovation.

Activists shut down a highway near Munich this morning as part of larger anti-car/anti-IAA protests. They climbed onto the signs and were sitting in the road, calmly waiting to be arrested (from what we could tell). I felt so bad for the thousands of people […] [Original post on mstdn.social]

This is a small, local effect of the fascist assholes in DC right now. It won't make national news, for this year, maybe we won't notice as much. But if a local environmental organization can no longer afford to run a really fun, productive river clean-up done […] [Original post on mstdn.social]
An email from WMEAC (West Michigan Environmental Action Council) announcing the end of the annual, volunteer river clean-up. This is the text:

A Message to Our Valued Partners and Volunteers

It is with deep regret that we must inform you, our valued partners, sponsors, and volunteers, that the annual WMEAC Mayors’ Grand River Cleanup will not be taking place this year. We are extremely disappointed to put this cherished community event on what we hope is a temporary hiatus.

The volatile economic and political environment, together with some recent disappointing news about grants, mean that we have not met our revenue goals for the year. We simply don’t have the capacity at this time to plan, staff, and fund this large-scale community engagement and volunteer event that has been WMEAC’s signature event for the past 21 years.

It’s only because of past volunteers and financial supporters like you that the River Cleanup has been such a success in the past. It’s only because of you that WMEAC has a 55-year legacy of being a trail-blazing, community-focused champion for environmental education and policies. We are truly grateful for your past support and partnership.

While we must pause the River Cleanup this year, we are confident that with your continued financial support and collaboration, WMEAC can maintain and build upon its impressive 55-year legacy of vital environmental work during these challenging times.
