Interesting thought! This would be another proposal: branch off from SODO and build new, much needed stations in Georgetown and South Park and end at the airport. One downside of branching at Judkins would be cutting off the stadiums from their closest light rail while fixing the at-grade section
A depiction of part of Seattle Subway's vision map. The relevant part to the post is the pink line which runs north-south and separates from the current 1 line at SODO, goes through Georgetown and South Park, and rejoins at Tukwila International Blvd before ending at SeaTac Airport. This would free up Sound Transit to elevate the existing Ranier Valley segment without severing the spine.

Just some absolute word salad here from CEO Constantine. He has been leading this process in various roles as King County Exec, ST Board Chair, and now CEO since 2009!
"It is holistic. It’s creative. It’s iterative,” Constantine said. “We’re talking about everything across the agency — operations and maintenance and finance — considering everything we are doing in order that we might be able to better deliver and better serve from an internal perspective, process requires ST leadership and staff to bring all of our costs together and really collaborate across various interlocking spheres to inform each other and deliver the best data and information to the board to inform board decisions. Instead of throwing on the brakes, instead of paralysis or simply delaying projects and diminishing scope, as we did previously, we are going to look at this program holistically and bring the board information on all of our work from across all of our enterprise.”

One option is to build the pink line south as part of an ST4 package, and then elevate the 1 Line through Rainier Valley

If you want to save light rail to Ballard, now's the time to speak up! Tell Sound Transit that they need to build the system we voted for. Great to see people organizing to make sure our voices are heard. saveballardrail.org

So... a funny thing happened when they were making the Club World Cup navigation signs...
Temporary navigation signs that we assume were put up by a FIFA (or some third party that is not Sound Transit) used the Seattle Subway logo to guide people towards Link.

This is a minor thing considering this week’s Sounder issues, but: 1). Check out these sweet bollards! 2). Note how far away the train is from the platform entrance. 3). The gates stay down long after the train stops. @sound-transit.bsky.social - Any insight on why 2/3 are the way they are?

Self re-post series (#2) In 2022, we pushed for SB 5528, which gives cities the ability to supercharge Link expansion. It’s now state law.
Image showing that SB 5528 passed in both the WA house and senate.

Self re-post series: First up: Seattle created the first citywide Link plan, ever, in the Seattle Transportation Master Plan last year and we put together a little visual history of the pathway there.
Seattle rapid transit/high capacity transit proposals over the years. Starting with the Bogue plan is 1912 (failed), Forward Thrust 1968/1970 (failed), Sound Transit’s Long Range Plan (in process), the BRT map from the 2012 Seattle TMP (partially implemented), Seattle Subway’s vision map, and the current Link vision in the 2023 Seattle Transportation Plan.

“One more lane!” only fixes anything if you only allow buses in that lane.
Picture of 70 people in 70 cars across two lanes in gridlock traffic vs 140 people in two buses in one lane in no traffic at all.

A few eyebrow raisers in this chart but 6 minutes from “CID S” to Sounder is an absolute fiction.

This graphic is undefeated.
Question: “What does it take to move 1000 people?”

Answer: One 4-car Link Train OR 15 Metro Buses OR 625 cars, which also require 5 acres of parking at both their start and destination.

It’s brutal how bad we are at this in the US. West Seattle link is 4 miles/4 stations for $5.6 Billion.
Picture of the M4 line in Milan, just opened with 21 stations over 9 miles for $2.6 Billion.

That's right. Always keep your head up and phone down so you don't trample someone while distracted walking at 40 mph
Pennsylvania department of transportation tweet about how distracted walking is just as dangerous as distracted driving. Includes a graphic telling people to keep their heads up and phone down while walking.

Can't tell if the person who wrote the copy for the waterfront shuttle webiste is being subversive or just openly hostile to everyone outside a car
Be prepared for delays and wear good walking shoes just in case. The nimble and courageous may be able to rent an electric bike.Give yourself enough time for delays and come prepared to walk. The young and brave may be able to rent a scooter.
