If you go Venice-Munich, Munich-Cologne-Brussels, you pay just €10 for the Venice-Munich train, seat reservation optional on all sectors, €5.50 for that if you want it.

Good morning from the Milan-Brussels European Sleeper which has just called at Köln Hbf 08:07 and is now miraculously ON TIME. Breakfast is served, it’s included in sleepers. Due into Brussels at 11:40.

Yours is Comfort Standard, a couchette compartment turned into a sort of sleeper. That’s what I had southbound. Now I’m in Comfort Plus, European Sleeper’s brand name for a proper sleeper with washbasin.

I’ve a soft spot for these venerable AB30 sleeping-cars. Built in 1956 as P-types with 20 duplex single compartments, completely rebuilt in the 1990s with a more conventional 10-compartment layout usable as single double or triple. Only European sleeping car in stainless steel.
